INTRODUCTION OF BROCK CHISHOLM
Born on May 18, 1896, Oakville, Canada Fought the First World War when he was 18 After the war, Chisholm pursued his lifelong passion of
medicine In the Second World War, Chisholm held the highest position
within the medical ranks of the Canadian Army In 1946, he became the Executive Secretary of the Interim
Commission of the World Health Organisation In April 1948, Chisholm became the World Health
Organisation’s first Director-General on a 46–2 vote Chisholm was an Honorary President of the World Federalists
of Canada and President of the World Federation of Mental Health from 1957 to 1958.

1959- the American Humanist Association named him Humanist of the Year
He received numerous honorary degrees
1967- he was made a Companion of the Order of Canada
HISTORY OF VENTURE 7 April 1948- WHO established with its headquarters in
Geneva, Switzerland 22 July 1946- the constitution of the World Health
Organization had been signed by all 69 countries of the United Nations
1966- WHO moved into its headquarters building 1976- the World Health Assembly voted to enact a resolution
on Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation, with a focus on community-driven care
1980- after over two decades of fighting smallpox, WHO eradicated the disease- the first disease in history to be eliminated by human effort
1986- WHO started its global programme on the growing problem of AIDS
HISTORY OF VENTURE 2007- together with a few organisations, the WHO was
credited with reducing global deaths from Measles by 68% after forming the Measles Initiative
WHO's help has contributed to a 40% fall in the number of deaths from tuberculosis between 1990 and 2010
