Winners of the 2006 World Cup Final, Italy also brought quite the shock to the world stage when their poor performance in 2010 took them from number 1 in the world to number 26. The former champions didn’t even make it out of the first round. Not only were they unable to defeat Slovakia—a team that hasn’t qualified for the World Cup in 16 years—but they were also unable to vanquish Paraguay or even New Zealand, a team who has never made it past the first round in the two World Cups it has qualified for. Italy truly suffered a fall from grace, but they were far from the biggest scandal of the 2010 World Cup.
