World Biodiversity Day
Target audience (age): Ensino Fundamental 1 Aims: get familiar with the World Biodiversity Day (May 22nd), its celebration and food vocabulary related to the topic through CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning in Science). Duration: 30-40 min. Organization: group work Materials: internet access, worksheets, cardboards, pencils, markers, examples of fruit and vegetables (see images below)
Preparation: Information about biodiversity:
• Biodiversityis the degree of variation of life. It can refer to genetic variation, species variation, or ecosystem variation within an area, biome or planet.

Procedures:• Writethe word biodiversity on the board and ask students what they know about it. Provide some

• Chooseone of the videos you checked during preparation and play it to the group.
• Askstudents how they would contribute to biodiversity and how they would like to celebrate the World Biodiversity Day.
• Dividestudents into small groups and explain they are going to play a game about food.
• Distributethe worksheets and explain they are supposed to classify the food according to the categories in the worksheet. Use the pictures to introduce words they don’t know.
• Checkwhich group got more answers correct and solve any vocabulary doubts they might still have.
• Survey: have students check these links to find out the best time to buy certain fruit and vegetables:
