This year we are delighted to bring a very exciting five day programme of events to Terryglass. With a variety of arts events, performances and visual arts experiences, the festival provides the opportunity to let your creative side run free.

The festival is organised by a small voluntary committee which works enthusiastically all year round to make each festival bigger and better. It has now become an established event on the Irish arts festivals calendar, with a loyal and discerning following travelling from near and far. The continued support we receive from our sponsors, local community and businesses is unparalleled and we would like to thank everybody who contributed to this year’s programme. In turn we would ask people to support our sponsors without whom the festival would not take place.

We are pleased to welcome the Heritage Boat Association to the shores of Terryglass for the duration of the festival, along with local voluntary groups such as the Kilbarron Terryglass Historical Society and the Terryglass Improvements Society. This year we are working with the Terryglass Improvements Association to “Green” the festival, so we would ask all visitors to look out for information provided and to dispose of their waste responsibly.

Niall de Búrca kicks off the festival with a wonderful night of storytelling straight after the festival launch on Wednesday. Thursday we have a fantastic night’s entertainment with Jack Wise who, with his unique combination of comedy and magic, will have you on the edge of your seat and trying not to fall off laughing. The Gala Concert in the church this year is an evening with singer/songwriter Paddy Casey,

Paraic Leahy - ‘Creatures of Costume’An exhibition of watercolours on paper and oil on wood

Terryglass National SchoolOpening Hours – 11.00am – 5.00pm Daily Adm: Free

There is an absurd logic to these highly detailed paintings – a sort of magic realism that deviates from the familiar, breaking the rules of our world. Presenting a metaphorical family tree of contemporary man, re-reading historical postures, attitudes and norms with disorienting detail, deliberately ambiguous and open-ended. The mutations presented in these portraits are implausible and outlandish yet obedient to certain mathematical principles we might call unifying laws; a host of ill that hover between the body and the mind, feeding the dead, yet maintaining a strong contemporary relevance.

Paraic Leahy graduated from Limerick School of Art and Design in 2008. Recent solo exhibitions – Nag Gallery Dublin, (2014) and Ormston House, Limerick, (2013). Paraic has exhibited in group exhibitions at the RHA Annual Exhibition, Ireland, (2015), the London Art Fair (2015); The Manchester Contemporary (2014); Paper Gallery, UK, (2014); Sluice Art Fair, New York (2014); as well as other notable galleries.

List of Awards; The RHA Tony O’Malley Residency Award 2015/16; Tipperary Bursary Award 2015; The Ucross Foundation Fellowship Award, Wyoming, U.S.A (2011); Shortlisted for the Modessqe 1st International Painting Award, Warsaw, Poland (2013); Claremorris Open Award selected by Lisa Le Feuvre (2010); and the Tyrone Gutherie Bursary Award selected by Tipperary Arts Council (2010).

Michael Ray – “Nest” An Art Installation

Terryglass National SchoolOpening Hours – 11.00am – 5.00pm Daily Adm: Free

The word, Nest, takes us back to origins, beginnings, to the source, the mother, to innocence, to safety. It has a spectrum of profound symbolic associations. These associations are explored by renowned glass artist Michael Ray, in collaboration with the local community, who have been invited to act on the idea and let it act on them, contributing to the conjuring of a unique glass sculpture.

Michael Ray will animate the installation with recorded conversations and the construction of hundreds of glass twigs into a giant nest. The space will be dark, using only flame as an ambient light source. Light and shadow will dance on the walls, adding further magic. The environment will allow the viewer to experience a sense of intimacy through a multi-sensory, kinesthetic engagement with the nest.

Michael Ray is a multi-award winning glass artist and poet living and working in West Cork. His work can be found in public and private collections throughout the world. He has recently exhibited in China, Chicago, London, Paris and Dublin.

Thursday 13th August 20158.00pm Jack Wise - Festival Marquee Adm: €10The Jack Wise Show is a Molotov cocktail of Comedy, Magic and Sword Swallowing.Items of borrowed jewellery are smashed up in front of the horrified owner’s and then much to the amusement of the audience Jack causes them to vanish only to reappear in a previously empty envelope in plain view all the time!  As Ireland’s only Sword Swallower your audience will witness the spine tingling moment when Jack swallows a 24 inch real sword!! But the highlight of the show has to be Jack’s ventriloquism. Using a face mask with a movable jaw, Jack turns an audience member into a side splitting life size puppet! Modesty aside, it’s hilarious and a real show stopper and not to be missed!!

Heritage Boats visit the Terryglass Arts FestivalHeritage boats consist primarily of converted canal boats that once plied their trade throughout the inland waterways of Ireland. They ceased trading in 1959, and almost all of them have been preserved and converted to cruising vessels. Most of these vessels are getting close to being one hundred years old and quite a few nearing the 150 years old. They present a magic sight particularly when they come together as a group. Terryglass Arts Festival are delighted to welcome the Heritage Boats to this years festival as part of their tour of Lough Derg. Visit The Quay during the festival where we are expecting over 20 vessels who will also be putting on a special light show on the Saturday night around the time of the fireworks display. The Heritage Boat Association (www.heritageboatassociation.ie) will also have a display of historical items associated with the boats and will give some talks on the history of them during the festival. Check out blackboard at the Box Office for details.

Friday 14th August 2015As part of Terryglass Arts Festival, we are very pleased to announce a special intimate gig with Paddy Casey on Friday 14th August.Paddy Casey has been at the forefront of the Irish music scene since releasing his debut album Amen (So Be It) in 1999, while his second release Living became the biggest seller in Ireland out-selling U2.

He has also featured heavily on the international stage having been invited onto and performed on the hit American CBS Chat Show ” The Late Show” with David Letterman.
