As Midland has a significant number of students involved in the arts [540 students in 2012] the event space attached to the Community Market, could accommodate smaller events organized by the students.

STUDENTS OF LINCOLN SCHOOL: ART EVENTS

4The Media Department of Lincoln Park School is currently promotingthe Center’s events through posters.Along with that it could take over the Market’s promotion in Midland+the surrounding Boroughs.

ARTS SCHOOL + PA CYBER

6From the 345 employees of PA Cyber, 298 live out of Midland. A large percent-age of the 540 students of Lincoln School of Performing Arts live out of Midland. The cafe can serve as a place for lunch + an economical boost for the Main Street.

Lincoln Center tried to have an open cafe in the summer of 2011, but they are not going to repeat it this year. The Market along with the cafe can act as a destination for attendees before or after the events + support the activity on the Main Street.

The individual groups can collaborate with the market in order to get the necessary supplies for their events. Special offers and prices could be applied for the community groups in order to maintain a reciprocal collaboration.

MIDLAND HAS A STRONG DEDICATED COMMUNITY

10There is the opportunity to involve the community actively in both the construction and the operation of the Market, and that will ensure the success of this Model.

11A key point to the revitalization of the Main Street through the creation of Market is the beautification of the sidewalks. Connect-ing Lincoln Park Center with the Market, through a walkable route will activate the public space. before

Page 23: Working with the Midland Community

WHAT ARE THE THREATS?ALTERNATIVE PATHS?

Page 24: Working with the Midland Community

IF THE MARKET DOES NOT HAVE AN IMPACT ON THE COMMUNITY

IF THE MARKET IS NOT ECONOMICALLY FEASIBLE:

ALTERNATIVE

The involvement of the community from the beginning is crucial. This can be done through surveys, charettes and marketing.

WHAT1

2Create a seasonal market for farmers and distributors from surrounding boroughs in Lincoln Park, along with related events.

Page 25: Working with the Midland Community

CONCLUSIONSThis model is centered on economic development. However, in order for it to be sustainable it has to be socially relevant and community driven.
