Daniel Aletaha (1975), MD, MSc - Austria He is rheumatologist since 2007 and currently is an Associate Professor of Medicine. Daniel works as consultant physician at the Division of Rheumatology in Medical University of Vienna. His main research area focuses on inflammatory rheumatic diseases, its prognostic factors, biomarkers and outcomes. Daniel was a founding member of EMEUNET in 2009. [email protected]

Neil Basu (1977) MD - UK He is a rheumatologist since 2009. Neil is currently completing his PhD in epidemiology at University of Aberdeen, UK. His main research area focuses on vasculitis, SLE, rheumatic fatigue. Neil was also a fellow for EULAR taskforce examining classification and diagnostic criteria in systemic vasculitis. He belongs to EMEUNET Education subgroup.

Maya H Buch (1972) MD, PhD - UK She is a rheumatologist since 2008. Maya is a senior Lecturer & Honorary Consultant Rheumatologist at University of Leeds in UK. Her main interests focus on systemic sclerosis, immunotherapies/biologics and inflammatory arthritis, as well as investigating response and identifying sub-groups responsive to specific targeted therapy. She is EMEUNET Steering Commitee member and Education subgroup leader.

Isabel Castrejon (1976) MD - Spain She is a rheumatologist since 2007. Isabel was trained at Hospital Universitario La Princesa in Madrid, Spain. Since 2010 she works as a clinical research fellow in a research program concerning outcomes in rheumatic diseases at the Division of Rheumatology at Hospital for Joint Diseases, NYC. Her main interest area focuses on outcomes research and rheumatoid arthritis. Isabel is actually involved in a taskforce for the development of a EULAR toolbox online for PROs. She is a member of the EMEUNET Education subgroup.

Mojca Frank (1978) MD, PhD - Slovenia

She graduated at Faculty of Medicine in University of Ljubljana and gained her PhD in Biomedicine at the University of Ljubljana in 2010. Since 2011 she works as postdoctoral research fellow, at the Center of Experimental Rheumatology in Zurich, Switzerland. Her main area of research focuses on RA, cardiovascular disease, activation of synovial fibroblast, epigenetics , microvesicles/microparticles, microvesicle-mediated intercellular communication. She belongs to EMEUNET Visibility, Education and Surveys subgroups.

Cécile Gaujoux-Viala (1979) MD, PhD - France

She is a fellow at the graduate school BioSE, currently occupies a half-time clinical position and half-time research and teaching position at Paris 6 University and Salpetriere Hospital in Paris. Her main interest area focuses on outcome assesment, epidemiology and treatment of rheumatic diseases. Cécile was also a literature review fellow for the EULAR RA management and psoriatic arthritis recommendations. She is a member of the Website, Internal Communication and Education subgroups. Laure Gossec (1972) MD, PhD - France

She is a rheumatologist since 2002. Laure is Associate Professor of Rheumatology at Cochin Hospital, Paris, but she is currently working at the Manchester Epidemiology Unit, UK. Her main interest area focuses on outcomes research and patients related outcomes, especially in rheumatoid arthritis and psoriatic arthritis. Laure also was a fellow for the taskforce for elaboration of recommendations for management of psoriatic arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. She is a member of the EMEUNET steering group. Laure is the chairperson of EMEUNET for the year of 2011-2012. She is a member of the Website, Internal Communication and Education subgroups.

Espen A. Haavardsholm (1975) MD, PhD - Norway

He is currently a Post-doctoral Researcher and a Leader of the clinical trial unit of the outpatient clinic at the Diakonhjemmet Hospital in Oslo, Norway. His main research area focuses on imaging in inflammatory rheumatic diseases with a special interest in MRI and US, interventional trials, treatment strategies, outcome research in rheumatic diseases, early arthritis, secondary osteoporosis, biomarkers and registries. Futhermore, Espen is a member of the "EULAR Standing Committee on Musculoskeletal Imaging" and a member of EULAR Task Force on “EULAR Points to Consider for the use of Imaging of Peripheral Joints in Rheumatoid Arthritis Clinical Practice

Gulen Hatemi (1972) MD - Turkey

She is a rheumatologist since 2008. Gulen is Associate Professor at Istanbul University Cerrahpasa Medical School. She was a fellow for taskforce for EULAR recommendations for the management of Behçet’s disease. Her main interest areas focus on Behçet’s syndrome, vasculitis, familial Mediterranean fever. She is a member of the EMEUNET Education subgroup.

Mette Holland-Fischer (1972) MD - Denmark She is rheumatologist since 2004. Mette is currently a Specialist Registrar at Aalborg Hospital in Aarhus University Hospital and Chief Coordinator of postgraduate medical training at department of rheumatology in Aalborg. She was appointed as Denmark’s Junior Doctor representative in EULAR Standing Committee Education and Training in 2010. Her main research areas focuses on RA and co-morbidities as well as relationship with immunosuppressive drugs. She is a member of the Visibility and Education subgroups.

Axel J Hueber (1975) MD, PhD - Germany He is a clinical and research fellow in Immunology and Rheumatology at University of Erlangen in Germany. Axel has got his PhD in the United Kingdom in 2011. He was ACR/EULAR exchange program fellow in 2008. His main interest area focuses on cytokine biology in synovial inflammation, psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. [email protected]

Diana Karpec (1984) MD - Lithuania She has got her MD at Kaunas University of Medicine. Currently she is a senior resident of rheumatology in Vilnius University Santariskiu Hospital and will become rheumatologist in 2013. Diana has been practicing in Florence University Hospital, Italy and in Universitad Complutense de Madrid, Spain. Her main interest area focuses on connective tissue diseases. She is EMEUNET Internal Communication subgroup member and co-author of this newsletter. [email protected]

Lars Erik Kristensen (1975) MD, PhD - Denmark He has got his MD in Copenhagen in 2002. He became a rheumatologist and has got his PhD in Lund, Sweden in 2009. Lars Erik is currently a consultant and senior researcher at Department of Rheumatology in Lund, Sweden. His main interest areas focuses on clinical research of efficacy and tolerability of anti-TNF treatment and other 2nd generation biologics of chronic arthritis.

Pedro Machado (1978) MD, MSc, - Portugal He is a rheumatologist in training at Coimbra University Hospital in Portugal. Currently Pedro is PhD researcher at Leiden University Medical Center in Leiden, The Netherlands. Pedro was a clinical fellow at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital and the MRC Centre for Neuromuscular Diseases in London and at the Rheumatology Department of Leiden University Medical Center. His main research area focuses on spondyloarthritis, SpA, RA and myositis. Pedro is a leader of the EMEUNET newsletter subgroup and a member of the Education, Website and Internal Communication subgroups. [email protected]

Peter Mandl (1976) MD, PhD - Hungary He is a rheumatologist since 2009 and has got his PhD in functional neuroscience in 2007. Peter is currently Post- doctoral Research fellow at the Division of Rheumatology at Medical University of Vienna . Peter Mandl is the next EMEUNET Chairman (2012 - 2013) and Website Group Chair! He is a member of the Education, Internal Communication and Visibility subgroups. His main research areas focuses on neuroimmunology and musculoskeletal ultrasound.

Anna Molto (1981) MD – Spain She became rheumatologist in 2010. She has got international experience in France and currently she works at Hopital Cochin and has a teaching position in Paris Descartes Medicine Faculty. Right now she is working on her thesis. Her professional and scientific interests focuses on rheumatoid arthritis, metabolic arthropathies, connective tissue diseases. She participates in the website, internal communication and education subgroup activities within EMEUNET. [email protected] [email protected]

Elena Myasoedova (1981) MD, PhD – Russia She is a rheumatologist and Assistant Professor at the Department of Internal Medicine and Rheumatology in Ivanovo State Medical Academy in Ivanovo (Russia). She achieved her PhD degree in 2005. She has got international experience during postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Health Sciences Research, Division of Epidemiology in Mayo Clinic (USA) and she continues collaboration with this center. Her interests concentrate on epidemiology of rheumatic diseases and their comorbidities, especially cardiovascular disease. She is a member of EULAR abstract review committee and EMEUNET website and education subgroups. [email protected]

Gyorgy Nagy (1972) MD, PhD – Hungary He is a consultant rheumatologist in Semmelweis University in Budapest. Recently he achieved his habilitation degree at this university. He has got international experience during a postdoctoral fellowship at the Department of Rheumatology at State University of New York, Syracuse, USA. His scientific interests focus on nitric oxide, T lymphocytes and microparticles. Gyorgy is an EMEUNET education and website subgroups member.

Jackie Nam (1972) MD - UK She was trained in South Africa and became a rheumatologist in 2006. Currently she is Clinical Research Fellow at University of Leeds in U.K. Her professional and scientific interests focus on early arthritis. She is Junior Author of the Early Arthritis module for the EULAR online course.

Caroline Ospelt (1974) MD, PhD - Switzerland

She has been doing research at the Division of Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology, AMC in the Netherlands and currently works as a senior scientist in the Center of Experimental Rheumatology at University Hospital of Zürich, Switzerland. In 2012 she achieved her PhD degree exploring issue of synovial fibroblasts in RA. Her scientific interests focus on rheumatoid arthritis, epigenetics, microRNA, innate immunity. Within EMEUNET she is visibility subgroup leader and internal communication subgroup member. [email protected]

Sofia Ramiro (1982) MD, MSc - Portugal She is a rheumatologist in training at Hospital Garcia de Orta, Almada, Portugal. She has already achieved an MSc in Public Health and Epidemiology. Sofia is currently a PhD candidate at the AMC, University of Amsterdam. She is investigating long-term outcomes in ankylosing spondylitis. Her main interests focus on outcomes in spondyloarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis and innovative therapies. Within EMEUNET she is a leader of the Internal Communication subgroup and member of the website, education and visibility Sofia, together with Pedro, was co-editor of the last newsletters from ACR.

Hans Ulrich Scherer (1975) MD - Germany/The Netherlands

He is fellow in training in rheumatology and works on his PhD degree at the Department of Rheumatology, Leiden University Medical Center in the Netherlands. He has got international experience during fellowships at Charité University Medicine in Berlin and Leiden University Medical Center in the Netherlands. His professional interests focus on basic and translational science (e.g. ACPA, T-/B-cell immunology, glycoimmunology). Uli is co-author of the EULAR Online course, has prepared our logo and the layout for the newsletters and participates in the website subgroup.

Monika Schoels (1972) MD - Austria She is a resident in Internal Medicine in Hietzing Hospital in Vienna. She has got international experience in US during fellowships at the Div. of Clinical Decision Making, Informatics and Telemedicine at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, Tufts Clinical and Translational Science Institute and School of Medicine in Boston. She is interested in Rheumatoid Arthritis, Psoriatic Arthritis and Health Economic Research. Monika participates in our website development.

Ladislav Šenolt (1976) MD, PhD - Czech Republic He is Associate Professor of Internal Medicine and head of Connective Tissue Research Laboratory at the Institute of Rheumatology in Prague. He has got international experience during a research fellowship in University Hospital in Zurich. He is delegate member of the EULAR Standing Committee on Musculoskeletal Imaging. Ladislav is especially interested in RA pathogenesis, biomarkers and novel therapies. He is responsible for surveys in EMEUNET and is a member of the Education subgroup.

Sabina Shabanova (1974) MD, PhD - Russia She is research asscociate at the Department of Systemic Rheumatic Diseases in Institute of Rheumatology in Moscow. She has been rheumatologist since 2000. She achieved her PhD degree in 2004. She has got international experience in the University of Genova in Italy. Her scientific interests focus on systemic rheumatic diseases and neuroendocrine immunology. [email protected], [email protected]

Francisca Sivera (1977) MD - Spain She is a rheumatologist at Hospital de Elda in Alicante. She has been a member of the Task Force for the EULAR CPPD Recommendations on Terminology, Diagnosis and Management. Her professional interests focus on gout and CPPD arthritis and synovial fluid analysis. She is member of the EMEUNET education subgroup.

Jan Sznajd (1972) MD, PhD - Poland He is academic teacher and fellow in training in rheumatology. He works at the Allergy and Immunology Clinic at Jagiellonian University in Krakow. He is specialist in internal medicine and nuclear medicine. His PhD thesis concerned myocardial perfusion abnormalities in SLE patients. His professional interests focus on connective tissue diseases and vasculitis. He is involved in EMEUNET education and internal communication subgroups. He is co-author of this newsletter. Ingo H. Tarner (1971) MD - Germany He is a consultant rheumatologist/senior scientist at the Dpt. of Internal Medicine and Rheumatology, Justus-Liebig-University in Giessen and Dpt. of Rheumatology, Clinical Immunology, Osteology and Physical Medicine in Kerckhoff-Klinik in Bad Nauheim in Germany. He has got international experience at Stanford University School of Medicine. His professional interests focus on rheumatoid arthritis, systemic sclerosis, cellular and gene therapy strategies, molecular and cellular imaging, cellular and molecular effects of physical therapy. He is Chairman of the Young Investigator Group of the EULAR Scleroderma Trials and Research group (EUSTAR). He is a member of the internal communication, visibility and education subgroups within EMEUNET.

Sander W. Tas (1976) MD, PhD - The Netherlands He is internist and rheumatologist at the Academic Medical Center at University of Amsterdam, Division of Clinical Immunology & Rheumatology, EULAR & FOCIS Center of Excellence. He has got international experience during fellowships in Imperial College School of Medicine in London and Harvard Medical School in Boston. His PhD thesis concerned modulation of immune responses in arthritis by targeting NF-kappaB. His professional interests focus on rheumatoid arthritis, NF-kappaB signaling, dendritic cells, angiogenesis, gene therapy. Sander is a member of the website subgroup.

We are sorry not to present details of all members of the Working Group. We were not able to do that because some of us have not sent their CV and photo.
