ACTION ITEM UPDATE
COPC AI 2007-2.16 NWS Port 20 and 21 convert costs
CSAB AI 2007-2.4 DATMS-U Backup Procedures 2007-10.1 Communication Use Estimates
COPC Action Item 2007-2.16
NWS cost and Schedule to convert to SFTP NWSTG – None; already converted NESDIS – Communicates through NWSTG
SFTP capability - $140K and 4 months
NCEP Official Communication through NWSTG HTTPS, SSH, VPN are available
Recommendation – Convert NESDIS to SFTP

Action Item 2007-2.4
Documented Backup Procedures DATMS-U Is The Most Reliable Link ~99.99+% All Sites Can Use Internet For Short Term Backup
Capacity has expanded May provide viable backup
Current Documented Backup Procedures Outdated Based on Old data and results
Recommend semi-annual Backup testing Create repeatable backup procedures Eliminate bottlenecks
7
Action Item 2007-10.1
Communications Bandwidth Communications projections recalculated Community activity still a work in progress Consistent method to track bandwidth being tested
Interpretation must be consistent Builds better ‘Big Picture
Site and Systems Accreditation are concerns for security and data throughput

DATMS-U Changes –Spring 2008
14
Issues
Interagency Modeling CONOPS Under review by JAG/OCM for potential file sizes
needed for projections
Initial look If GRIB 2 used
Bandwidth increase may be within projections If GRIB 1 used
Initial projection is 3 to 10X current bandwidth More data exchange will highlight bottlenecks
Increased use will accelerate DoD network changes
15
Issues
Meeting Friday with JAG/DISA/NWS 18 April Discussed future of DATMS-U Short and long term solutions Diverse connections between DoD and NWS clouds
