2. Advance Warning sign placement is based on the road use type, as well as the posted speed limit.

Notes:1. Short duration stationary is daytime work that occupies a location for less than 1 hour within a single daylight period.

If the total work within the intersection is limited to 15 minutes or less, the NYSDOT engineer may allow theuse if vehicle mounted high-intensity rotating, flashing,or oscillating lights in lieu of advance warning signs. Vehicle lights must be clearly visible from each approach.

3. Due to the nature of intersection signal work a barrier vehicle may not be required for all conditions. However, if a NYSDOT engineer requires a barrier vehicle or lane closure(s) due to roadway conditions such as high speeds, and or high volumes, the appropriate NYSDOT 619 Standard Sheet, or Work Zone Traffic Control Manual typical shall apply to work zone setups.

If shoulder area becomes too narrow for the Advance Warning vehicle to be completely on the shoulder, the vehicle shall stay on the wider shoulder area until the operator can safely drive around the narrow shoulder to new set-up point. 4. Where practical and as needed, the work and shadow vehicles should pull over periodically to allow vehicular traffic to pass. 5. The Shadow Vehicle shall be placed to optimize and enhance visibility due to stopping sight distance restrictions from the rear.
