Mobile technologyHow do you think these devices can be used in the workplace?

Mobile devices are tools: you must use the correct tool for the job. When would it be best to use each of these devices? For instance, you wouldn’t use a smartphone to write a report, so what is the best way to use it?

Work patterns: what do they mean?

IE4.1

Some employees work from home on certain days as companies focus on ensuring a positive ‘work/life balance’. Others may be permanently based at home and only travel to an office for meetings. Freelancers will also work from home. Laptops will be used by employees with remote access to work servers.

Sharing a job role with another person. Each person works part time. There may be a common day when both people are in the office to ‘hand over’. They may share a desk and pc or each have a laptop. Not all companies support job sharing.

This can be working whilst commuting, travelling to meetings or other work places. It can also be any time work takes place away from the usual place of work, for example when someone is away on business. Laptops/tablets/mobile technology all make this possible.

Employees don’t have a set place to sit in the office. They sit at whichever desk is free, often when some employees are out of the office. Personal laptops allow for portability.
