without a chair must

take a piece of paper

from a hat and act out

the noise of that animal.

Continue until all the

animals in the hat are used.

Have two teams in lines and two lots of

dressing up clothes e.g. sunglasses,

wigs, feather boas etc. See which team

can dress up every child in the clothes,

run to the front of the line and then hand

over to the next child.

The lists referred to in the August Flightcrew.com are enclosed with this edition.

As previously mentioned, if you have reason to believe that there are any errors in the compilation please advise me immediately.

I am pleased to tell you that we are well advanced in our plans to have our pilot establishment up to strength for summer 2001. The process is time consuming but vital to our future well being. As you probably know our process involves an initial interview with two management pilots, a simulator and medical assessment. There is now a real opportunity to plan rather than react to events and I am optimistic that along with an augmented training establishment we can be fully prepared for next summer – something which we are very aware we have not achieved this year. I know it has been said elsewhere but I would like to reiterate my thanks for the positive reaction to the disrupted lifestyle that has been experienced by so many. I recognise that the best way in which we can demonstrate our intent is to ensure that we do not allow ourselves to be in this position again. We are keen to build a demographic profile that produces a workforce without significant distortions in any age group. This is conducive to steady career progression and the wild swings in the level of training requirements can be mitigated. Whilst the rapidity of expansion and amalgamation of workforces have so far made this difficult I hope that we can now progress toward stability that yields benefits for all involved.

On 03 September Terry and I had the opportunity to discuss parochial and wider issues with the Base Captains. As our local representation they have greater knowledge and insight into some of the issues that affect your base. We are learning some valuable lessons with your feedback to them - Please continue to make use of this resource.

I have been made aware of some concerns surrounding the allocation of car parking spaces at JMC House.

Car parking is a subject almost bound to guarantee strong reaction and polarised views. I do not wish to underestimate the depth of feeling or to dismiss the opinions of those who feel that their position is adversely affected.Captain Lowe has briefed me on the methodology of allocation of these valued spaces and I have concluded that it has been dealt with in a rational and even-handed manner. I would ask those of you who have been displaced, and have cried foul, to reflect upon the allocation of spaces to JMC employees and be generous enough to accept that there is no hidden agenda. The principle of service time within our organisation is a fair and reasonable way to determine allocation.

In response to previous editions I have

received two letters albeit with a nom de

plume which I have generously allowed

to be reproduced below.

Geoff Overton was due to retire at the end of August, but I am pleased to announce that he has postponed this to assist the completion of the JMC TRTO approvals and associated changes to the Part D Training manual. He will therefore be with us for a while yet.

Roy Linnington retires on the 21st October. Whilst the period of my acquaintance with Roy has been fairly short, his operational and social concerns about changes introduced over the past year has meant that we have had fairly regular exchanges of viewpoints. I wish him a long and well-earned retirement.

August had its tough periods, although it was better overall than July. We are all under huge pressure when serious disruption occurs, and your continued support is required. Team Work is vital. You have continually helped out throughout - thank you for your hard work and commitment.

SirRe: That Spanish BBQ

I read with interest the last edition of

Flightcrew.com but feel compelled to write and

correct a misnomer. The suggestion made by the

Chief Pilot that BC was dancing on the tables was

not correct. I know for a fact that BC was

concerned about the excitement growing in the

marquee and was simply trying to calm down the

crowd, taking to the tabletop simply to attract

everyone’s attention.

A gallant act for which we should all be thankful.

Faithfully

Sir

As a colonial and guest pilot in your country I am constantly amazed and fascinated by you quaint English traditions.

The medieval ritual of the "BBQ banquet" never fails to thrill and enthral albeit lacking a Maypole and Morris Dancers. I also have to say that your inflatable castle was a very poor facsimile and bears no resemblance to those fine edifices in Windsor, York or Wigan. The reality was further ruined by its very spongy floor, which made it almost impossible to walk on. A great day spoiled by this inattention to detail.

Yours faithfullyF/O Bob Upanddown

from the Fleet Manager

I would like to say farewell to Roy Linnington who has his last DC10 flight into LGW on Tuesday morning 19th September.

Roy, thank you on behalf of the Fleet for your contribution to our operations, you are going to be missed by many of us. When you write your memoirs I am sure that the period of time that you spent with us will take up quite a few pages!

Don’t forget to include the bit where in the simulator having been requested to assume incapacitation you could not prevent yourself from continuing to assist your co-pilot – this was perhaps taking CRM a bit far!

We all wish you every happiness in your retirement knowing that our loss will be Patricia’s gain!

A recent off duty incident downroute prompts me to remind you of the dangers that can befall us in some of our destinations. Give some thought as to how you might be able to protect some of the more vulnerable members of our crew.

Whilst outside of the Hotels the larger the group that you are in the safer you are likely to be.If you go out as a small group do your best not to leave anyone "downtown" on their own.Which reminds me, which crew was it that left me behind in a bar in Sanford a couple of weeks ago.Do you think that they were trying to tell me something!

We have had a lot of delays lately with some crews going considerably into Commanders discretion.

If the situation is developing into one of those occasions please be sure that each of you are aware of all the FTLs, which may affect you.

I can assure you that, whether it be for accepting an off duty call out or for extending duty period, your extra contributions to the Fleet’s operations are appreciated.

I know that in some quarters morale is not as high as it I would like it to be, but I also know that we have a good team and that, whenever you can, you respond to meet the task.

Please always ensure that in your enthusiasm to get the job done that you do not step outside the rules.

Farewell Roy Delays

"Dear StagecoachCustomer..."Due to increased congestion many motorists in the region consider traffic jams to be part of their daily routine. Many drivers can address this issue by leaving their house earlier or changing to an alternative route.

Stagecoach Manchester is faced with the same congestion problems as other drivers but do not have the flexibility of changing routes or start times on a daily basis to beat the traffic.

In September 2002, Stagecoach undertook a major service revision exercise to tackle reliability. Even since September, congestion has worsened in some areas, which has meant that we have had to review our network again for 23 February 2003.

The majority of services affected are being scheduled to start their journey a few minutes earlier in the morning, leaving at the same time in the evening and arriving at the final destination a little later.

In addition to journey time, we have altered the routes on a small number of journeys to help with the reliability of the service and maintain a strong network.

Due to an increase in the costs of running services we have had to withdraw or reduce the frequencies on a small number of journeys. Over the last few years many extra buses and drivers have had to be used simply to provide the same levels of service.
