WHAT EXACTLY IS THAT...

A work-life balance is about balancing what you ‘need to do’ with what you ‘want to do’.  Sounds easy enough right? Yet, many of us struggle to fully achieve just that.   In the Health & Wellness industry we can be too busy striving to do our best for our clients and customers that we focus too much on business and neglect the other areas of our lives.  Naturally, if our lives are out of balance it can lead to stress and miss-direction.   We promise it is possible to have a good work-life balance with a successful and thriving health and wellness business, without sacrificing time with your family or missing out on having a personal life. Here at Wellbeing Umbrella we want to share 3 practical work-life balance tools to help you achieve the perfect work-life balance whilst running your wellbeing business.

HOW BALANCED IS YOUR LIFE?

As a business owner it’s always useful to regularly check in with yourself to identify what is out of balance in your life, so you can help yourself get back on track.  One such way of checking in with yourself is through the use of a Work- life balance wheel! Here's one we made earlier...

1. Go to the next page and decide the 8 areas within your life that are important to you, such as Business, Family, Fitness, Money etc., or Partner, Mother, Sister, Health Practitioner etc. Once you’ve decided, list them around the 8 sections of the Work-life Balance Wheel (see figure A.). 2. Take the time to check in with yourself and assess how satisfied and fulfilled you feel within each area. Give yourself a score out of 0 (low)-10 (high) for how much time you feel you’re currently giving to each and mark this within sections with a pen/pencil line (see figure A. above). 3. Thinking of what shape a wheel should look like…how balanced does your wheel look and feel? Has the wheel enlightened you to anything?

4. How you view balance within each area of your life is unique to you. So take some time to think about what balance would look like to you in each of those 8 areas, make a note of which areas you’d like to focus on bringing more balance to. How would you prefer to spend time in these areas? 5. Now that you’re aware of the reality of your current work-life balance and what your ideal work-life balance would look like, it’s time to make it happen! So, ask yourself & take action on the following: which of the life areas would you most like to improve on? What do you need to do to regain balance? What needs to happen to ensure you maintain your energy levels? Who could help you to make it work? What could stop you from maintaining balance? How would you recognise/lessen that?
