Dear Friends, Serving you as President these past two years has been the experience of a lifetime. This club is filled with strong, dedicated, powerful, fun women, and it has been a blessing to share lunch, spe- cial interest groups, and outings with so many of you. This past year your Executive Committee chose seven good habits to enhance its leadership within the club. Monthly Surprise
Each month at the luncheon, a drawing is held for the monthly surprises. These are items such as gift cards, or gift baskets
donated by our members. This year, Judy Eagle has been the coordinator for these drawings. Please thank Judy for all her hard
work and dedication to a fun part of our luncheons which also contribute generously to the funds we are giving away at our May
luncheon.
Don’t forget to get your tickets! $2 each or 3 for $5

Program
MAY
Our program this month is very special because it represents the culmination of everything we do all year long! Does that mean we celebrate all year long? In a manner of speaking, we do. Operation Celebration is the program where we give away the money we have diligently collected all year long through our collaborative hard work and the cooperation of our members and the community. It is where we learn a little about the amazing young ladies who have impressed our Scholarship Committee and earned the honor of receiving one of our Scholarships. It is the day we get to rub elbows with them and with the many grant recipients who contribute to the quality of life all of us living in Lago Vista revere and get to enjoy. Yes, we have fun all year long, we enjoy our Special Interest Groups and all the camaraderie that bubbles up at our luncheons and our get-togethers. But it is nice to remember that all that fun results in something of great
value to our community. It is important to recognize the hard work of the Scholarship Committee and the Philanthropic committee in selecting the recipients. The names of all who apply are not simply tossed into a hat and pulled out, helter skelter in some sort of random lottery! No...months of research, analysis and contemplation go into the final selection. And no small degree of anguish as well, since not everyone who asks, gets. The funds are finite but the desire to have a lasting impact on our community is infinite. Come celebrate this achievement...it is YOURS! We will also be swearing in our new officers and there is a VERY SPECIAL SURPRISE that we cannot divulge until the luncheon. You won’t want to miss it!

Every month we try to publish the names and dates
of our members’ birthdays. Keeping up with the list
can be a daunting job! If your name and special day
have not appeared or there has been an error in the
date , please let us know. Just shoot us an email at
[email protected].
Carol Watson, our City of Lago Vista liaison reports the
following:
The city council approved the zoning change on 31 acres in Marshall's Harbor subdivision to allow the plan for a “retirement village” to go forward. The sale of the following city owned property was ap- proved:
Modular building. $5,000.00 20705 Deep Creek. 3,000.00 20707 Deep Creek. 3,000.00
9103 Rolling Hill $16,100.00
The bid on 180991 Marshall's Pt (commonly referred to as “The Otwell House”) for $2,262,700.00 was rejected. The City manager will counter offer; if that fails, the City will advertise the property for 60 days. A feasibility study for a hotel/convention center was ap- proved for funding. The transfer of the concession service contract at the Lago Vista Golf Course from Habanero Grill to Bakers Bar & Grill was approved. For additional information please contact the City of Lago Vista.

GOT WINE? At each monthly luncheon, a small group of volunteers brings wine and serves it to luncheon attendees.
Donations are taken for the wine and are generously given to the club for philanthropic endeavors. To
continue this practice, volunteers are needed to help serve the wine at each luncheon. If you would like to
be a part of this committee, please contact Janet Cason, 832-265-1470 or [email protected].
Operation Celebration is upon us! So is the end of another year of wonderful meals prepared by Alfred and his
catering crew. We are so blessed to have such an amazing group of people working with us to make our luncheons
special! Two years ago, when I took this job, the caterer was already in place. Thank you Lisa Blenden for finding
Alfred’s Catering! I would also like to thank Robyn Burkhart for helping me set up for every luncheon! Thank you
to Trisha Upchurch and Donna Nash and Anna Johndrow for helping me understand this job and DO this job! And
thank you to all of the wonderful women in the LV Women’s Club for being patient with me! I have enjoyed
getting to know so many people the last 2 years and have been so honored to serve you!

Online Payment Survey Results Many thanks to the large number of members who took time to answer the survey that was on the clip boards at last month’s luncheon regarding interest in implementing
payment for luncheons on-line. There was a clear message sent by those who responded; a very strong majority would rather NOT implement online payment at this time. So, for the time being reservations will be accepted on-line and credit card payments will continue to be accepted in a separate line at each month’s luncheon.
A Great Big Thanks Our founder, Ann Murrow had the foresight to start the Lago Vista Women’s Club 41 years ago. She also had the fortitude to engage in a month’s long survey of our members to examine what she called THE BONES AND FUTURE of the Lago Vista Women’s Club. She listened to many of our members express what they most about our club and what they would most like to see considered and implemented in the future. If you participated in this research project we thank you! The Executive Committee will be analyzing the results of her ambitious effort so look forward to updates and new opportunities to engage with YOUR club.
Box Tops for Education The
Lago Vista Elementary School has participated in the BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION program since 2002,
earning over $10,000. (Fund use is restricted.) Visit boxtops4education.com for a list of participating products and valuable coupons. Bring your BT4E to the Women’s Club Luncheons and place them in the collections basket in the bar area.

craftsy persuasion, please contact Nancy Meierhoff or Trisha Upchurch . The Artistic Divas have a long history of engaging those of us who love to paint, sew, decorate, create, photograph, design, etc. Anyone interested in pursuing this will be very appreciated by many of our members! If no coordinator is found by June 30 it be disbanded and will not be listed in our Directory or on the website.
Dues are Due ! That sort of
sounds like a square dance call but it is actually a call-out to remind us all about the square deal of getting caught up on dues as soon as possible. Our annual dues remain at a measly $25, an amount which hasn’t changed in 10 years! What else can you remember that costs the same today as it did 10 years ago? And what a bargain! From
each dues payment a percentage is set aside for our Philanthropy mission and the rest goes to club administration and maintenance. Your luncheon ticket pays for lunch but the rental fees for our meeting space, lunches for our guest speakers, supplies, credit card fees and many other miscellaneous expenses that we must cover.
It is important for members to update their payment and any change in their information by June 30 so that our directory can be printed with the correct information. The directories are probably THE most utilized publication you will ever receive and each one is personalized with your name. We greatly appreciate the effort that Hostelene Halcom puts into creating the directory. Give her a hand and pay your membership dues at the May luncheon in cash, by check or credit card. . Alternately, you can mail in your renewal to:
P.O. Box 4501, Lago Vista, TX 78645
C.A.R.E. Group– CARE members provide cheer and encouragement to all club members. Contact us if you or a member you know is ill, in the hospital, facing an upcoming surgery, or
going through a difficult time. The CARE Group will make phone calls, home visits if desired, and provide a grocery help service for members who are ill or homebound. If someone needs a ride to the monthly luncheons let us know. Also Rachel Deaton, one of our CARE Group Members, works at the library. She would like to help members that are physically unable to visit the library. She will help you check out books, movies, etc. If you are interested in this service, please contact Rachel at 512.589.4212 or at the library.
Special Request from the CARE Group: Please
bring general interest greeting cards to donate. Many of us have a few waiting to be put to good use in a drawer someplace, right? Pull ‘em out and bring them to the May luncheon or stop by your favorite card purveyor and pick up a couple. Our members will appreciate your thoughtfulness.

May’s book presentation will be about
Mary, Queen of Scots. Much about this
history making woman of the 16th
century is so dramatic in the traditional
movie making pattern that it can be
difficult to believe that she actually
engaged in the behavior that adapts so
well to a screenplay. Anna Johndrow will present the book
authored by Antonia Fraser; one of the industry’s most
respected biographers on May 21 at 12:30 at The Bluebonnet
Room in the Activity Center on Boggy Ford. Bring a snack to

is ready to welcome you to the Chef’s Hat! The opening day
is scheduled for September. Our chef is Becky Pfile. She is
ready to turn on the stove and listen for our “ahs” and sighs.

and some easier on the scales. Our new cooking skills and
clever ideas will give pleasure to us at the own dinner table.
The cost is only $20 and you will leave the table filled with
mucho calories and great new ideas. The gatherings will be
held at Becky’ home. (Just wait until you see Becky’s kitchen!)
Sign-ups will begin in September. For more information, call-

Our current cooking group, The Cooking Pot, is always full
and its popularity prompted the creation of The Chef’s Hat.
