Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Racism is a sin against the dignity of the human
person and against justice and we cannot tolerate it.
I have written about racism already so this is not my
main concern today. Thankfully in the United States
of America we are free to speak up about injustices
and have a right to peacefully protest. We do not
have a right, however, to destroy property.
While I do not equate racism and destruction of
property, and I realize that the majority of people
protesting racism are not involved in the destruction
of property, I want to be clear that while we as
Catholics should support the fight against racism,
we cannot support the destruction of property.
Rioting, looting, defacing property and toppling
statues are all destruction of property and are sinful.
Numerous statues have been removed lawfully in
the last few years because of pressure put on local
governments or those with the authority to remove
them, if more statues need to be removed this is the
way to move forward.
Catholic churches have fallen victim to some of
these methods over the last few weeks. Some have
been tagged with graffiti and at least one statue of a
saint, Saint Junipero Serra, has been toppled. I
encourage your support in the fight against racism,
but we cannot support involvement in any violent or
destructive acts.
In Christ,
Fr. Dan

Stewardship Note Both the first reading and the Gospel today speak of hospitality and welcome. Our ministers of hospitality are a most visible example of using one’s time and talents to welcome the people of God. But the Gospel assures us that all who give even just “a cup of cold water” to one of His lowliest ones will be rewarded.
SATURDAY MASS CHANGE The Saturday evening Mass will change to St. Joseph’s effective July 4th, next Saturday.
