WELCOME!

Woolgrove School is a Special Needs Academy for children of primary school age, located in Letchworth Garden City. In April 2012, we were the first special school in Hertfordshire to become an Academy. We provide for a range of special needs for children with moderate learning difficulties, including those with Autism, Speech, Language and Communication and other learning needs. Academy status is largely independ-ent from the Local Authority. This

allows us to:

♦ be responsible for our own

direction;

♦increasingly support parents of children with special needs, who have difficult decisions to make regarding their children’s school-

ing.

Ofsted comments ~ 2010

♦The school places very good emphasis

on developing pupils’ skills, knowledge and understanding in English, Mathe-matics, Science and ICT and learning is enriched extremely well by a wide range of additional activities;

♦ Pupils’ achievement and their enjoy-ment of learning are outstanding as a result of high quality teaching and a curriculum that is matched extremely well to their needs. Outstanding care, guidance and support ensure pupils are happy at school and relate ex-tremely well with one another. The pro-gress of all groups of pupils, boys and girls is exceptionally good.

Outreach Service

An Outreach Service has been established at Woolgrove since the early 1980’s. The Outreach Service is organised as part of the Local Authority’s provision to support local primary schools. Outreach is an invaluable service supporting over 100 mainstream schools in North Hertfordshire, Stevenage, Welwyn Garden City and some areas of Hatfield. A visit to the Outreach page at:

www.woolgrove.herts.sch.uk

will give a further insight into the many ways in which the team

support local schools through:

*training courses* *referrals* *in-reach visits* *resources*

* a Widgit Centre*
