A message from the Principal Class Team…
Dear Parents, Carers and Students,
Thankyou and three cheers to the small band of volunteers (Nicole Marsh, Faith Valentine, Rebecca Scott and Mandy Mc Cuspie & Maddie Curran) who gave up their day last Thursday to help sell gifts to the children for that special lady in their lives. In total we raised $1600.00 – what a wonderful fundraising effort. Thank you Woodville Community!
Our next BIG fundraising venture is the Cadbury Cholcolate Drive. How delicious!
Boxes of mixed Freddo frogs will be delivered to the school next week. We are asking
families to help raise money for our school by selling a box of Freddo frogs (value
$60). Every box of Cadbury Freddo frogs we sell will raise $21.00. We’re asking all
families to sell at least one box for the school. Feel free to grab another box if you’ve
got lots of hungry buyers lined up!
Please contact the school or your child’s teacher if you would rather opt out of this fundraiser and not have a box sent home.
2022 Prep Enrolments If you have a child who is eligible to come to school in 2022 (turning 5 years of age by April 30th 2022), we are accepting enrolments now.
To enrol you will need to bring: Child’s birth certificate Immunisation certificate Visa (Passport) if child is not born in Australia Proof of residential address (Utility bill e.g. gas/electricity)
If you know someone who would like a tour of our school, please have them call the office on 9749-2770 to make an appointment. WE are offering school tours (limited numbers) for new families. Please contact the office to book a tour.
We want our students to tell us what they think… Our school is conducting a survey to find out what your child thinks of our school. The Attitudes to School survey is an annual student survey offered by the Department of Education and Training to assist schools in gaining an understanding of students' perceptions and experience of school. Our school will use the survey results to plan programs and activities to improve your child's schooling experience. Students in Year 4, 5 and 6 at our school will participate in the survey. Your child will complete the survey online during school hours using a purpose built secure online survey tool. It is important to note that we are not in any way “testing” your child. The survey results will be reported back to the school in term 3. No student can be identified in the results reported to schools or in any other report of the data. This year the Attitudes to School survey will be conducted at our school in the next couple of weeks. The survey only takes 20-30 minutes to complete and occurs during your child's class time. Please speak to your child’s teacher if you would like more information or visit the Department of Education and Training website: http://www.education.vic.gov.au/school/principals/management/Pages/performsurveyat.aspx.
We look forward to seeing the students in their space themed costumes next Wednesday and listening to a story read by an astronaut currently in Space! Keep warm as the cooler weather settles in. Lyn, Nadia and Jodi Principal Class Team
COVID SAFE PRACTICES
Reminder: Due to Department of Education and Training guidelines if you need to see your child’s teacher please call or email the school to make an appointment: Phone: 9749 2770 Email: [email protected] If parents/ carers/ visitors need to go to the office please go around the building to the front verandah in Warringa Crescent. Thank you for your understanding and co-operation.
Student Absences
If your child will be absent from school please call the office on 9749 2770 and press 1 for absences. Parents of students with an unexplained absence will be sent a SMS message each day asking for the absence to be explained.
Can You Help?
We are looking for adult volunteers who are able to help with our bike repair program. Every Wednesday we encourage our students to bring their bikes to school for repairs. If you are somebody that would be interested in helping out, please let the school know. You don’t have to have any experience as all training will be provided. All we ask is that you can regularly give your time either before or after school on a Wednesday and obtain a Working With Children’s Check. If this suits you, please come and help! This is a program that we would like to continue to offer to our school and eventually our community and is a partnership between Wyndham City Council and Dr Cranky’s – Bikes for Kids. Thanks Mr S

Cross Country
38 Woodville students were selected to represent our school at the Hoppers Crossing District Cross Country Carnival on Friday 30th April. Students ran through the wetlands track at Heathdale Christian College – running up and down hills, on grass, gravel and around water. For most students it was their first time participating in a long distance race. Everyone who competed should be very proud of their efforts. I would like to give a special mention to Annabella M in 5/6C who placed in the top 10 and will be competing in the Division Event on Wednesday 26th of May. Good luck Annabella!
Sporting Schools Basketball Program
This term the Grade 1 and 2 classes are learning about basketball. Billy and Brady from Wyndham Basketball have been running an introductory Basketball program for the students. The program is aimed at developing students’ basketball skills such as dribbling, passing and shooting. The students have been enjoying all of the activities and games so far in the program.
EAL News
The EAL students have been enjoying playing with their peers in the Investigation room and have been learning to further develop their vocabulary and social skills through imaginative play.
Prep News
This week, Prep students have been busy learning about measurement. They have been focussing on measuring the length of various objects around the classroom to determine which is longer or shorter than the other. Students have used different materials such as icy-pole sticks and unfix blocks to help them in their learning.
Music News
The Grade 3/4 children have been having fun learning bucket drumming rhythms to ‘We Will Rock You’ and ‘Best Day of My Life”. The classroom is loud and full of energy. Each week they are improving on their drumming skills and creating their own rhythms. The Grade 1/2 children have been watching Disney’s ‘Mary Poppins’ movie and are learning to sing ‘A Spoonful of Sugar’. Today they created chalk drawings to jump into, just like Bert did in the Movie!
