“An Environment Where We Can All Grow Together”
12/2/11
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Report cards came home earlier this week. It is a perfect time to reflect on homework and work habits.
Homework is a necessary step to help reinforce the skills and concepts learned at school. It provides
additional practice for those skills that need to become automatic. Homework also helps students develop
responsibility and organization, which are life long skills. Time management is key when working with
your children on homework. The holiday season can become a busy time for all of us. Here are some
suggestions to help you and your child stay on track for accomplishing goals.
-Have a family calendar to record the fun events as well as due dates for assignments.
-Use the assignment notebook each day. It is a great form of communication as well as an organizational
tool.
-Arrange a consistent time and place for homework to get done. Good habits begin with establishing a
study place in your home.
-Discuss routines. Agree on the best time to study for a test or complete those weekly assignments ahead of
time.
-Long-term assignments may require materials. Make a list before beginning projects to avoid late night
trips to the store.
-Celebrate success! Help your child feel proud of their hard work. That pride will motivate them when they
feel challenged.
-If you notice your child having difficulty with homework, review the directions together. Break steps
down to help them feel less overwhelmed.
Woodview staff is dedicated to working with you and your child to achieve success. Please communicate
with us if there are any homework concerns. We are happy to assist you.
Sincerely,
Cathy Santelle
Woodview School Principal

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
To help at the next Market Day sale
Saturday, December 10th.
Market Day is a fundraiser that we share with the other District 46 elementary schools. Each elementary school takes a turn supplying volunteers to help unload the delivery truck and organize the orders for pick up. The profits from each monthly sale is split between the five elementary schools. Woodview's turn to volunteer is December 10th.
15 adult volunteers are needed to help with the sale. If we do not have volunteers show up to help with the sale, then we will not receive our share of the profits (probably $400 for December). Volunteers are needed at Meadowview school from 7:45 am to 9:30 am. These volunteers will help unload the truck and assemble the orders. We also need a few volunteers (about 4) who can stay until 11 am to help when the customers come to pick up their orders. School-age children are welcome to help, too. Donuts, bagels, coffee and juice will be provided.
Please email Stephanie Weatherly at [email protected] if you can help with this important PTO fundraiser. Thank you!
Back by popular demand…
The Penguin Patch Holiday Shoppe
The Holiday Shoppe will be open during the lunch periods
Dec. 13, 14 and 15.
All items are priced from $.50 each to $10.00 for the students to pur-
chase gifts for their family and loved ones.
Look for a flier to come home with your student with more details.
We still need LOTS of volunteers to help the “shoppers”.
If you are available one, two or all three days,
please contact Lisa Bako at [email protected]
CALLING ALL BAKERS!
The Staff Appreciation Committee is busy coordinating the holiday cookie boxes for the Woodview staff. With 52 staff members, lots of
cookies are needed! If you'd be willing to donate 1 or 2 dozen cookies (or more) for the staff's holiday gift, please email
Kristin Heupel at [email protected] with the number of cookies you will donate.
Homemade cookies are preferred, but store-bought can also be
donated. Cookies should be dropped off at the school the morning of Wednesday, December 14, no later than 9:30am.
Thank you!
COMING ATTRACTIONS
The Woodview PTO Fine Arts Committee is excited to have the Grayslake Central High
School Concert Choir coming to Woodview for a Holiday Concert!
There will be two assemblies held in the Multipurpose Room on:
Monday, December 12th:
8:45-9:30 a.m. and 9:40-10:25 a.m.
Families and afternoon kindergarten students are welcome to come to either performance.
Get in the holiday spirit by listening to some beautiful music courtesy of the GCHS Concert
Choir!
WINTER BREAK MOVIE! The Woodview PTO is once again, pleased to announce the Woodview Matinee at Antioch
Theater!
Enjoy a movie with all your Woodview friends on:
Wednesday, December 28th
10:00 a.m.
The special screening will feature "Alvin and the Chimpmunks: Chip-Wrecked."
Ticket price is $6 per person and includes popcorn, a drink and free refills. Tickets are
purchased at the door, which open at 9:30 a.m.
Hope to see you there!
ADOPT A FAMILY AND HELP ANOTHER WOODVIEW FAMILY IN NEED THIS YEAR
This holiday season, instead of the Mitten Tree, you will have the opportunity to
adopt a Woodview family that is in need of some extra support this holiday season.
The Woodview staff has done this for many years and would like to extend the
opportunity to the entire Woodview community.
If you would like to make a contribution, please send gift cards, cash, or checks
made payable to the Woodview PTO. Make sure to mark your envelope or memo
line on your check “Adopt a Family.”
The Woodview Staff would like to thank you so much for your continued generosity,
and wish you a very happy, healthy holiday season!
Woodview School will once again be participating in the Toys for Tots Pro-gram. The mission of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Chistmas gifts to needy children in the commu-
nity in which the campaign in conducted.
Please bring your new, unwrapped toys to the Woodview Media Center or office before December 15th. The Marine Corps Reserves will pick up
donations on Thursday, December 15th.

Our 2011-2012 Market Day grocery
fundraising program is underway!
The Market Day grocery program is a monthly,
district-wide fundraiser from which you can order
quality grocery items.
Our school PTOs receive 20% profit based on our
total monthly sales. This money is then used, by
the PTOs, to help fund requests for field trips,
assemblies, classroom wish lists, as well as a
variety of other PTO sponsored activities.
If you have any questions about Market Day,
please feel free to visit www.marketday.com
or contact Stephanie at [email protected]
Clip & save Tyson Project A+ labels.
Turn in the labels to school. Your
school redeems them for cash. Each
label is worth $.26.
Here is another way to earn money for
Woodview. Simply clip the Box Tops
from your favorite General Mills
products and send them to school with
your child!
Chef Tony says, “A chill is
in the air. Market Day has
lots of delicious soups and
other hot meals that will
warm your family at
mealtime!”
Did you know that Woodview
collects Campbell’s soup labels? The
labels are worth points and must have
the UPC code in order to be used. The
points can be redeemed for books, gym
equipment, and other items for our
school. Each teacher has a box in the
classroom to collect labels and box tops!
