SCIENCE Task 1 (J-band): Explain the differences between a light and electron microscope and describe the advantages and disadvantages of using both types of microscope and explain the difference between the magnification and resolution of a microscope.

Task 2 (J-band): Draw a diagram of a plant, animal and bacteria cell and fully label it. For each of the structures (organelles) describe the function of each one you have labelled. Explain why plant cells have more organelles than an animal cell.

Task 3 (J- band): Enzymes are used in the body for digestion and synthesis of large molecules. For each of the following factors, sketch a graph and explain the effect it has on the rate of enzyme action:

● Temperature ● pH ● Substrate concentration

Task 1 (K-band): Draw a diagram to show the arrangement of particles in a solid, liquid and gas. Add labels to show the different changes of state. For each of the states of matter explain how the arrangement of particles affects the properties of each state of matter.

Task 2 (K-band): For each of the state changes listed below, describe how the arrangement and movement of the particles changes. Draw a heating and cooling curve and label the changes of state.

Task 3 (K-band): Distillation involves two different changes of state which can be used to separate a mixture of different substances. Draw and label a diagram to show the equipment that can be used to carry out distillation. Explain how the equipment can

-Create a poster of your favorite sport with a range of reasons why you like the sport and different aspects of it. Include pictures etc in your poster and different aspects of the sport that you have learnt in lessons, outside of school or from personal research. State in the poster some aspects that you may want to improve in this sport.

-Think about a sport that you would like to learn more about and practice more but do not know much about it. Research this sport online/in books etc(if no internet) and create a poster stating the aspects of the sport that you have now looked at with your now improved knowledge. Look into the rules, how to play the game, different skills involved within the game etc.

Once you have completed your posters, please send to your teacher

SOCIOLOGY Task 1: Pictures of society

Construct your own ‘picture’ of society. Your picture could take the form of simple drawing, a diagram, a written list, a jigsaw or any other form that you decide is appropriate.

Before starting your picture, you will need to think about how you are going to represent society.

For example, what parts, aspects or features of society need to be represented? How are these related or linked to one another?

Task 2: Socialisation activity

Listed below are nine agencies of socialisation, labelled A to I.

Read through the list, then rearrange the nine agencies into a diamond pattern as shown. Start at

Page 20: WOODSIDE HIGH SCHOOL TASK GRID: YEAR 10

number 1 with the agency of socialisation that you think has had the most influence on you, your

behaviour or your identity (the way you see yourself). Finish at number 9 with the agency that you

think has had the least influence on you, your behaviour or the way you see yourself.

B Families

C Mass media

D Parents

E Peer groups

G Social clubs

H Schools and colleges

Task 3: SOCIALISATION: TRUE OR FALSE?

Below are six statements about the process of socialisation. Some of them are true and some of them are false.

Working with a partner, take each statement in turn and decide whether it is true or false. If you think the statement is false, correct it to make it true.

1 The term ‘culture’ refers to the whole way of life of a particular society, including its customs, beliefs and language.

2 Families and schools are both examples of agencies of secondary socialisation.

3 Socialisation is an example of a social structure.

Page 21: WOODSIDE HIGH SCHOOL TASK GRID: YEAR 10

4 Norms can be enforced by positive or negative sanctions.

5 Values give us general guidelines for conduct and also set out how we are expected to behave in particular social settings, such as in cinemas or in waiting rooms.

6 Some sociologists suggest that as part of a process of secularisation, the influence of religion is declining in society. If this were the case, it would suggest that religion plays less of a role in the socialisation process today.

RS Christianity exam practice questions

1. Give 2 examples of where Christians believe you go when you die? [2] 2. Give 2 qualities Christians believe describe the nature of God? [2] 3. Explain two ways belief in life after death will influence a Christian? [4] 4. Explain two ways belief in the trinity will influence Christians? [4] 5. Explain 2 ways in which pilgrimage is important to Christians? [5] 6. Explain 2 ways Christian street pastors carry out their Christian duty? Refer to
