of the CFPV

• Considerable decrease of wood trading structure in the Basque Country.

• Over a decade of timber cutting under the potential of our forests, what has originated an important stock of old wood that is necessary to cut to preserve the quality.

• Necessity of bringing and making our wood known in new markets which demand this raw material.

• To be an active agent in the wood market not only as producers but also as traders.

• Bioenergy: an strategic destination for the future.

Statutory purposes of Basoekin, S.L:

- Forest management: elaboration of forest management plans, valuations, reforestation, cuttings, clearings, forest infraestructures, and all kind of activities to improve the forest mass.

- Marketing of the products

obtained from the forestry

activities or operations.

Timber trading by the

associate members

Member Associations do not buy timber to the

Associates.

They put the marketing tool at the service of the

associates:

Valuation of the timber that the associate member intends to put into the market.

The associate member tries to sell the timber throught the regular buyers that operate in the market.

If the offers received are not satisfactory or there is no offers, the associate member has the possibility to ask the Association to make an study of the valuation that could be obtained using the marketing tool. Such valuation is based on the price of the supplied timber and the operational costs.

If the associate agrees with such study of valuation made by the Association, BASOEKIN S.L. would start the cutting.

Contact and establish trade relations with traditional

markets.

Search complementary markets in collaboration with a

french cooperative with international experience.

Analyse the legal framework: model of contracts,

subcontracting, risk prevention…

Certified timber: enter into PEFC chain of custody (

percentage system).

Colaboration with buyers to bring timber to the market:

No competition.

Charges assurance: updating of credit and payment

control tools (confirming, factoring, credit assurance

enteprises...)

First important international test 3.500 tons in august 2012 to the Central European

Market

Other tests of transportation in containers

5 shipments of 3.000 tons to Central

European Markets in 2013

Problems detected.

High risk and small marge for the Associations: 100 €

invoiced= 63,4 to forest owner; 32 to forestry workers and

4,6 to the Associations for management fees and costs.

Sea transport involves uncertainty. Pesaje por medición de

calado; pago en base a cubicación de madera en sierra....

Little exploitative structure nowadays. People willing to work

in the forest but have no financing for purchaising

machinery, nor the Associations.

VAT of imports generates financing problems.

Achievements obtained and major

findings

1. In 2012 =30.000 tons and in 2013= 42.000 tons (31%

exports).

2. Firsthand knowledge of the Markets.

3. Experience in dealing and resolving problems related to

timber trading.

4. Our timber has been shown in foreign markets of

interest.

5. We have learned to collaborate and to be recognized,

what opens up new opportunities.

6. Support of Administrations is neccesary for the

financing of the operations and for recovering the

exploitative structure, taking into account the current

unemployment.
