Learning Guide: Focus On: T Singing T Dixieland-style improvisation
Dixieland – sometimes called Traditional Jazz or New Orleans Jazz – is the earliest style of Jazz music. Group improvisation – when one instrument (often trumpet) plays the melody while other instruments improvise new melodies – is the trademark sound of Dixieland. Try it for yourself: have one person play the chords, another play the melody and two others improvise around the melody. Have fun!
