were helped by one-on-one reading mentors through United Way’s
Learn for Life.
3,115requests for help were answered by United Way’s 2-1-1 call center, helping to provide
over 4,500 referrals to community resources.
19,015nights of refuge were provided for
homeless in our community.
$461,000in federal and state tax refunds were secured for low- to moderate-income
individuals through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program.
$12,965in diapers and monetary donations were
collected through United Way’s Community Diaper Drive to make sure ALL families
with young babies have the diapers they need to keep their child clean and healthy.
Your 2018 donation to United Way made lasting change in the lives of Portage County residents. Every 15 minutes, someone is helped by a United Way program or initiative. Listed below are just a few of the ways your gift helped build a stronger, more caring community.

Stevens Society Legacy Gifts are individual gifts to the United Way Endowment. These gifts are invested and annual earnings (5% of each principal gift) from these investments go to the most critical needs as determined by the United Way Board of Directors each year in perpetuity. Individual gifts with annual earnings of $500 or more are then highlighted in this Stevens Society Giving Roster.
Participation in the Endowment will enable donors to continue their tradition of caring and prepares United Way to address the pressing issues yet to come.

Each of us, as individuals and united together, plays a role in improving the lives of residents with physical and mental disabilities, assisting the homeless, caring for the elderly, preparing children for the future, and building a stronger, more caring community for everyone. You do this through volunteering, through working with one another to solve problems that are bigger than any of us can solve on our own, and through giving.
In 2018, nearly 7,000 individuals provided a gift to United Way of Portage County. You rallied together to raise over $3 million for the community through United Way. More than 2,100 of you also donated your time and talents through the United Way Volunteer Center – helping our youth, disabled and elderly in need of assistance. Thank you!
