WODCON ORGANIzING BODIESORGANIzING bODIEs

World Dredging Congresses (WODCONs) are organised by WODA, the World Organisation of Dredging Associations, which is composed of three sister though independent professional not-for-profit associations: the Western Dredging Association (WEDA) serving the Americas, the Central Dredging Association (CEDA) serving Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, and the Eastern Dredging Association (EADA) serving the Asian and Pacific region. www.woda.org WODA delegates the responsibility of organising WODCONs to one of its three member dredging associations, the one in whose region the congress takes place. CEDA is delighted to host and organise the next event in this prestigious series of world congresses for the world-wide dredging community, with the key support from its Belgian National Section. www.dredging.org

CENTRAl DREDGING AssOCIATION – CEDA

The Central Dredging Association (CEDA) is an internationally recognised independent professional association. It is an easy-to-access leading platform for the exchange of knowledge and an authoritative reference point for impartial technical information. CEDA actively strives to contribute towards sustainable development by strongly recommending working with nature. CEDA members are corporations, professionals and stakeholders involved in a diversity of activities related to dredging and the construction and maintenance of water-based infrastructure. CEDA represents the common interest of all fields related to dredging and marine construction and does not promote the interest of any particular industry sector or organisation. www.dredging.org

wodcon xx congress and exhibition

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN,As Chairman of the Executive Committee of WODCON XX and also as Chairman of the Belgian Section of CEDA, it is my privilege to invite you to Brussels for the 20th edition of the World Dredging Congress.Brussels is well known as the capital of Belgium and of the European Union, and as the seat of NATO and many other international political and economic organisations.

Besides that, the city is famous for its cultural heritage involving a lot of art nouveau, musea of all sorts and not to forget: chocolate and beer, both major and well appreciated export products. The venue of the Congress is located on the so called “Mount of Arts”, close to the most famous cultural sites and also providing a marvelous sight of the old, lower city center around the Town Hall, that will be the venue of the welcome reception.Dredging has developed to a major branch of Belgian economy. Starting from a sustainable home market, our major dredging companies have extended their activities to all continents. Hence, WODCON XX’s host country is home to leading edge water-based infrastructure, three of which are on the list of technical visits for WODCON XX delegates to see. The Flemish seaports and waterways agencies also have demonstrated to be playing a leading role in their respective fields. Few of you will be aware that Brussels is linked to the sea by a maritime canal and the river Scheldt, so that its port rightfully is called a seaport.Dear members of the WODA community and guests, CEDA and members of the Belgian Section look forward to meeting you in Brussels next June for WODCON XX.

Eric van den EedeChairman of the WODCON XX Executive Committee

WHO WILL ATTENDWODCON XX will bring together expert representatives of manufacturers, dredging companies, universities, research institutes, consultants, public authorities working in the dredging, navigation, coastal and inland flood protection, deep-sea mining, offshore wind energy, oil and gas production fields and providers of a broad range of services such as brokers, insurers, financiers, lawyers, and many more.

WODCON XX papers will discuss the design and execution of dredging works and its tools from mathematical models to machines - a combination of knowledge and under standing, skills cleverness, inventiveness, imagination, creativity and passion brought to concrete achievement. In other words: WODCON XX will be about “The Art of Dredging”.

As WODCON XX will take place in an area called the “Mount of Arts” in the heart of Brussels and our venue, the spectacular Square - Brussels Meeting Centre is a work of art itself, it didn’t take long for the Board of CEDA to make the linkage between WODCON XX and its venue and give the litle “The Art of Dredging” to WODCON XX.

In 2013 we are celebrating the XXth edition of WODCON. This milestone date coincides with the 35th anniversary of the current WODA and its three component associations, CEDA, EADA and WEDA, making the event even more special.
