Not To Be OutdoneJunior defender Kaitlyn Kelly was honored as the NEC Defensive Player of the Week. Her seven ground balls against Bryant are a team high this season. She scored her second goal of the season on Thursday and finished the weekend with four caused turnovers, four draw controls and eight ground balls. It was the first time Kelly was honored by the league with an individual award.

Seven Is EnoughDefending NEC Rookie of the Year sophomore Marissa Caroleo set a new career high with seven goals against Bryant. The second-year Bobcat potted four in the first half and finished with three more in the final 30 minutes of play. The seven goals are the most by any player in a game in the NEC this season.

Phenomenal FreshmanAfter missing the first two games of the season with an injury, freshman Chelsea Guerrera has emerged as one of the top young players in the conference. In just the second game of her career and the first against NEC competition, Guerrera scored three times and added assists on three more goals for six points against Bryant.

Back In Her Old RoleLeading the Bobcats with a program-record 44 assists last season, team captain Katie Latonick was off to a slow start this year. She had just two assists in the first three contests of 2010. Against Bryant, the fifth-year player went off for a conference-high four assists in the 10-goal win.

Dueling NetmindersSophomore starter Noelle Martello made just two saves against the Bulldogs while earning the win. Junior Lexi DeStefano (Brookfield, Conn.) came in over the course of the final 23:26 and made five saves, including two against Bryant’s top scorer on free-position attempts.

Oh-FerThe Bobcats began the season on a three-game losing streak. It marked the first time that Quinnipiac had lost three games in a row since the 2008 season when they won their first NEC Regular Season Championship and made the first of consecutive appearances in the league’s title game.

Gibney’s GoalSophomore Devon Gibney scored four times against the Stags. Three of her four goals came in the first half of play, while the fourth was part of a 3-0 run to start the second half. She also recorded two assists in the loss to tie her career high of six points.

Firsts For TwoFreshmen Chelsea Guerrera and Sarah Allen each scored the first goals of their college careers against Fairfield. The goal by Guerrera just over the midway point of the first half was the first point of her career, while Allen had already recorded four assists before notching her first tally.
