WL556E Unable to connect to Wireless AP with Auto Channel

Configuration

There are a few make and models of Wireless Routers and Wireless Access Points that are having

connectivity problems with the WL556E. The WL556E Wireless-N repeater needs to be on the same

channel as the main Wireless Router/AP for it to be able to communicate properly. If the main Wireless

Router/AP switches from one channel to another, then there would be a discrepancy on the wireless

link between the repeater and the AP. To get around this issue, you have to change the Wireless

Router/AP channel from “Auto” to any specific channel for 1 to 13.

Steps to change your main Wireless Router/AP channel

1. Verify the IP address of your main Wireless Router/AP by going to the command prompt. To

open the command prompt, Click Start > Run > Type cmd and click OK

2. On the command prompt, type ipconfig and press Enter

3. From the picture above, check the IP address of your Default Gateway. This is the IP address of

your main Wireless Router/AP.

4. You have to access the web GUI of your main Wireless Router/AP to be able to change the

channel. To do this, open your web browser and type the IP address of your main Wireless

Router/AP, in this case is 192.168.1.254 on the address bar

5. Input username as admin and password as admin, and click on the OK button, or check the

documentation of your router/AP for the login information

6. In the web GUI of your main Wireless Router/AP, look for the Wireless Configuration page.

Please refer to below screenshot of a Wireless configuration page for a 2Wire Wireless Modem.
