Your Business and World Jewish Relief: Partnering to Relieve Poverty
Olga worked in a bank for 12 years, but found that no matter how hard she tried, the only employees that saw any career progression were those with family members in senior positions. With few prospects ahead, she soon found herself unemployed and heavily in debt. Her tiny, inherited flat began to fall into disrepair, offering minimal insulation in the freezing Moldovan winters and her concern for her own well-being and primarily, her daughter’s, began to grow. Their only new clothes were those that they received as part of WJR’s Gifts in Kind programme.
Unsurprisingly, Olga suffered a severe crisis of confidence. Through WJR’s Livelihood Development scheme, however, she has successfully turned her life around. The programme has taught her vital skills including IT, office management and interview techniques. Since graduating, Olga has found a full-time job as a shop assistant and is now able to support both herself and her daughter, whilst actively participating in Jewish communal life through attending regular classes.
‘I am so thrilled. My daughter is so proud of me, as I am now able to provide for our family. Without the help of WJR, I don’t know what we would have done’

Who We Are As a UK-based international Jewish charity, WJR is committed to meeting the needs of individuals and communities living in abject poverty, assisting them in the transformation of their lives and livelihoods. Working through local partners, we focus exclusively on helping the most vulnerable sections of society; women, children, the elderly and those with disabilities, identifying solutions that both reduce poverty and build long-term sustainable solutions. WJR’s ongoing activities seek to assist the needs of primarily, but not exclusively, Jewish communities all over the world, outside Israel and the UK.
At times of major international disaster, WJR leads the UK Jewish community’s emergency response, providing effective interventions to those suffering in the aftermath of catastrophe. Inspired by the Jewish imperative of Tikkun Olam, healing the world, we assist those affected irrespective of their race, religion or ethnicity, helping them to rebuild their shattered lives.
How to Get Involved There are a number of ways in which your company and individual staff members can help us improve the lives of people across the globe. Whether you are a large business or just starting out, we would be delighted to partner with your company and look forward to supporting you along the way.
