The Salvation Army Greater Philadelphia Doing the Most Good®
Long-term & Supportive HousingThe Salvation Army Greater Philadelphia offers an array of supportive housing programs, including transitional and long-term, aimed to promote an atmosphere of dignity and respect. The Salvation Army operates programs for families experiencing chronic displacement, individuals with developmental disabilities and low-income senior citizens. Residential supports are personalized to meet the needs of each individual and are geared to promote happiness, independence and to enhance life skills.
When man-made or natural disaster strikes, The Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Response is often among the first on the scene, working closely with local emergency management officials, fire departments, and police departments to provide a coordinated response to incidents both locally and abroad. Mobile EDS teams comprised of
trained professional and volunteers remain on stand-by, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The Salvation Army is equipped to deploy more than 30 mobile response vehicles called “canteens” to provide both victims and emergency responders with food, hydration, shelter, clothing, and spiritual comfort.
Emergency HousingSalvation Army Greater Philadelphia’s Eliza Shirley House provides emergency housing for women and children at its location at 13th and Arch Streets. In addition to providing safe, sanitary temporary housing, Salvation Army staff members are trained to provide residents with education, tools and other resources needed to regain and sustain self-sufficiency.
Adult RehabilitationThe Salvation Army operates in-residence Rehabilitation Centers (ARC) serving men and women in varying stages of addiction. Most have lost the ability to cope with their own problems and provide for themselves. Funded through proceeds from Salvation Army Thrift Stores, residents are provided long-term spiritual, social and emotional assistance as they work to break the bonds of addiction and become self-sufficient and productive members of their community.

shelter to the homeless or educational programs for youth and seniors. The Salvation Army exists in nearly every zip code across America, and when you give, your donation stays in your community,
transforming the lives of your neighbors in need. Hope has a hero . . . You!

Summer CampImagine what a week at an overnight summer camp could do for an underprivileged or at-risk child who’s never known life away from the streets. Or for a disadvantaged and isolated senior citizen that might otherwise never venture beyond their front steps. Each summer hundreds of children and senior citizens from Greater Philadelphia experience the great outdoors at The Salvation Army’s Camp Ladore located in the Pocono Mountains.
Youth Education & EnrichmentPrograms for children and youth are a staple of The Salvation Army Corps Community Center. Programs range from before- and after-school tutoring and enrichment to music and arts education. For many youth, these programs provide both a safe haven and an opportunity to receive academic and artistic instruction that they would otherwise not be able to afford.
Adult Education & TrainingThe Salvation Army offers a myriad of educational support and career development opportunities for jobseekers. This includes Adult Basic Education and GED preparation courses and The Salvation Army Greater Philadelphia’s Soup’ On! Culinary Training Project, which provides free culinary arts job training and placement services to the unemployed and underemployed.
