Newsletter World Book Day
Don’t forget – as mentioned in the February newsletter children can dress
up as a book character of their choice on Thursday 3 March to help us
celebrate reading, enjoying stories and World Book Day.
Happy Easter!
This is our last newsletter for this term – so
although it is a few weeks away yet we would
like to take the opportunity to wish everyone a
very Happy Easter break and to thank you for
your support during this Spring term.
Healthy Schools Page
Dining Hall Updates We have been focusing on the dining
halls this term to look at how we can
further enhance the lunchtime
experience.
We have re-positioned the plate
collection area in the north hall and
introduced clearer lunchtime
expectations and house points for
lunchtimes. We also have a
noiseometer to ensure it doesn’t get
too noisy. Lunchtime stickers are
awarded for those eating all their
lunches and we have more pupil
volunteers at lunchtime to help each
other. We have also introduced an
active play club, updated the golden
table and children will be given
certificates if they are chosen for the
golden table on Fridays. Hopefully
all these changes will enhance
lunchtimes.
Please can we remind parents no
sweets or fizzy drinks in packed
lunches – thank you.
Buses Some children at the end of the day
travel on the service bus home.
We have had reports that a small
minority of pupils are not behaving
in an appropriate manner on the bus.
We liaise with the bus drivers and the
bus company and as a result we have
had to issue some children with
warning letters about their behaviour.
If they continue to make poor
behaviour choices, they will be
banned from the bus.
E safety – we have worked with the children on
internet safety as there was a special week nationally in
February. But the work needs to be ongoing and we can
work in partnership together to keep children safe.
One of the ways to keep children safe is to use parental
settings on pupils' devices, internet service providers,
and phone networks. However, technology moves fast
and some parents and guardians are unsure of where to
start.
The settings have varied functions, from blocking
inappropriate content to ensuring they don't spend your
money online!
The website Internetmatters.org has developed an
interactive guide that tells you which settings are
available and how to activate them. It covers a huge
range of devices and services and the information can
be printed. It is really easy, clear and helpful.
Here is the link:

Headlice – ‘Once a week take a peek’ Please please can everyone check their child’s hair once
a week. We do not send out ‘warning letters’ as these
have proved ineffective as people only then check when
they get a letter and by this point there probably is a
major outbreak. Please presume there is always the
possibility of the presence of headlice in children’s hair
and get into a habit of weekly checking. Please also
check in the school holidays as well as headlice in hair
is not exclusive to school but wherever children get
together. If we notice or suspect your child has a
problem in school, we will telephone and ask you to
treat your child. Often the problem has got severe if it
this noticeable. Parents also need to treat again a week
later – please look on our website for further
information. This problem can be beaten but it does
need everyone to work together and make regular
checks - thank you.
Welcome new addition to the tuck shop menu The tuck shop in the North building has now started to sell cereals at morning
break.
The cereals available are: Rice Crispies, porridge or cornflakes at 35p per serving.
Parents’ Evening - Spring Term
A huge, thank you for a good turnout for Parents’ Evening; 86% of parents were able to talk to
their child’s class teacher and discuss their learning and progress. It really helps when we can
work together to support your child – thank you.
Attendance for February - we have a school target of 95% overall to reach.
Thank you for good attendance and congratulations to Mrs Todd’s class - 2HT (97.6%) for very
impressive attendance during the month of February.
Staffing updates
We would like to send our congratulations Miss D Nelson, Teaching Assistant, who is getting
married later this month and will return to us after the Easter holiday as Mrs Heap. We also
would like to wish Miss E Smith, Y1 Teacher, all the best as she commences her maternity
leave after Easter and wish her well. Mr N Ingleby will be teaching Miss Smith’s class.
Mrs S Hopkinson, Teaching Assistant, will be retiring at the end of the spring term; we would
like to take this opportunity to wish her a long, happy and healthy retirement and thank her for
her dedication and contribution to the school over the years.
Rock Challenge
Miss T Harrison would like to thank all staff and parents for their help and support for this year’s
forthcoming Rock Challenge which is due to take place at 6.00 pm on Wednesday 9 March at the

Year 6 SATS - week commencing 9 May 2016
Year 6 will be the first Year group nationally to sit the SATs tests that are based on
the new 2015 National Curriculum. This new National Curriculum has higher
expectations than the old National Curriculum and a change in how the results are
reported.
Samples of the new SATs papers were available at parents evening; the Year 6
teachers are happy to show parents at the end of the day if you would like to see
how the requirements of the papers have changed from previous years.
In previous years an average expectation for a Year 6 child would have been Level
4 (4C, 4B, 4A). This year, results will be reported as a scaled score (a number
between 70 and 130).
The average will be 100 and this will equate to around the old Level 4A.
There will no longer be a level 6 paper but instead harder questions within the main
paper to take account of this and test the most able. Some children previously
working above average may now be working at around average and those at
average may now be slightly below.
Obviously we are working really hard with the children to ensure they have the
necessary knowledge, skills and understanding to feel confident with these new
tests. Other year groups are also working towards the new expectations as well.
Key Stage One SATS
These too are based around the new national curriculum and have higher
expectations. These too no longer report scores as levels but children will get a
scaled score from between 70- 130 with 100 being the national average, again this
will equate to higher than the old Level 2C- 2A range. There will be a test week for
Year 2 pupils later in the year.
All exam papers will be marked and given marks but the table which converts the
marks to scaled scores will not be available until July so children will receive their
results in their school reports at the end of the year. If you are not sure about the
results, which will be new to everyone, there will be an end of year open evening
and an opportunity to chat to the teacher about them.

INTER SCHOOL FOOTBALL 2016
Withernsea Primary School took part in the annual cluster 6 a side
football tournament at the Pavilion Leisure Centre. Five of the six schools
took part and was run over four consecutive Thursdays after school.
Each school played each other twice over the four weeks and the top two
teams in the league played off to be crowned overall champions.
It was a hard fought competition and was neck and neck with Patrington
Primary School right until the last game. With some great team work and
bits of individual skill Withernsea Primary School beat Patrington two
goals to one.
Charlie Bristow, Kai Fisk, Billy Fincham, Ellis Hall, Kurt Hauber,
Thomas Tukoroa and Charlotte Bacon all deserve congratulations for
their hard work and commitment.
