We welcome Carla Jervis as our ice block organiser. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our outgoing Office Bearers for all the hard work they have done over the past year. We have a number of parents who have offered to be involved in fund raising activities such as the Mother’s Day or Father’s Day Stalls. If you would also like to help out please contact Jen and she will find a job for you. At the P&C meeting this week we also discussed homework and approved a new homework policy for 2017. We were given a fantastic result—congratulations to all the staff here at Wellcamp. Staff meetings are on Thursday afternoons from 3.15pm. If your children have not been collected by this time they will be on the staffroom veranda, please collect them from there. Kym Our students would love donations of clean yoghurt containers. No money or forms should be given to any staff member, left on the officer counter or desk or left in reading folders. There are envelopes

near the mail boxes for your use.

If you have any concerns, and you are unable to make it to P&C meetings or unable to make a meeting to chat with your teacher or principal,

please feel free to send a note with your child to be placed in the mail box.

Thank you.

Upcoming Excursions To give everyone an idea of some upcoming excursions…….. This is not finalised, more excursions could be added as things pop up.

Term 2 Year 4 to 6 Amaroo approx. $10 /student

Term 3 Year 3 to 6 School camp approx $100 /student

Term 4 Prep to Year 6 Swimming lessons approx $60/student

Please note: These excursions have been heavily subsidised by the P&C. Their support for all Wellcamp students is greatly ap-preciated.

Permission notes will be sent home in the weeks leading up to each excursion.

We realise this is a financial burden for families. We would love it if all students were able to attend excursions as they are part of our curriculum. We therefore offer all families the option to pay a little in advance on a weekly or fortnightly basis.

Each family is able to come in to the office and pay any amounts they can afford (any day except Tuesday), which will be credited against their student’s accounts. Another option that more and more families are taking up is the bpay option. Some families have set up a deduction for a small amount from their bank ac-count. With this option, each family can choose what date (eg. the date after their pay is due), the amount etc.

If you would like more information or would like help with this, please contact the office. Please note: payment is due before the excursion date.

Partial refunds may be available for students unable to attend excursions. Please see the policy available in the forms and docu-ments section on our website or contact the office.

Reviewed February 2017

Wellcamp State School Policy Statement: HOMEWORK Rationale: The issue of homework has been addressed at a parent meeting and the following procedure was agreed upon. Objectives:

All homework should be marked in a timely fashion All homework is to be related to literacy and numeracy All homework is work children can cope with To gradually develop sound study habits

Operating Principles: Prep, Yr1- 6 will receive homework on Monday and is due back on Friday

• Prep - number, phonics and sight words • Year 1 - 6 – spelling and Maths Mentals– The Maths Mentals are to be

returned to school daily for correction and the spelling returned on Friday. • Year 5 & 6 students will be required to prepare and present a science talk and

a lecturette each semester. Science, Geography and History homework or projects may be given when necessary.

Reading: Prep & One – Reading books will be sent home in folders on Monday and Wednesday. These should be read for two nights and returned. Yr Two & Three - Reading books will be changed on Tuesday and Thursday and are to be read for two nights. Research shows that reading a book more than once is beneficial for younger students and will assist with their comprehension and fluency. Therefore students will have the same book for two consecutive nights. Library books may be read over the weekend and students are also encouraged to read other books at home. Yr Four—Six – Children are required to read a library book each night at home. The book should be finished, if possible, by the library lesson each week, and a summary of what is read completed and handed in to the class teacher. All students are asked to keep a record of nights read and have this signed by their parents so that their achievements can go onto our Reading Wall of Fame. Homework will not be issued in the first week of the year or the last week of each term except for term four when there will be no homework for the last two weeks.
