Greetings Champions!

In spite of the persistent challenges in 2015, Protasco had a productive and successful year and continues to go from strength to strength. The company achieved a number of important milestones including:

• Initiating the new performance management system that builds people and results;• Implementing Living the Values Campaigns; • Investing in staff and skills development;• Securing various building projects such as PPA1M Phase II; • Building homes for flood victims in Kelantan;• Celebrating our 12th year being listed on Bursa;• Achieving yet another new high records for our revenue and net profit;

On a personal note, I have been blessed and was pleased to be nominated as one of the Top Nominees in the Malaysian EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2015, under the category of Master Entrepreneur. While some of my fellow Champions had said, the nomination is an acknowledgement of my effort and achievements in bringing Protasco Berhad forward. It is also a recognition for the whole organisation and I thank everyone for their continuous support.

We had in 2014 launched a 5-year business plan in order to double-up our profits i.e. RM100 million by 2018. We take pride in having achieved remarkable growth over the last 2 years based on the business plan and I believe the RM100 million mark will be achievable as planned. This year, we will continue to create opportunities for growth across geographies and industries. With a continued focus on entrepreneurial management, we shall maintain high standards of performance and accountability in all of our businesses.

Expectedly, we will continue embarking on I AM PROTASCO (IAP) journey in 2016. This year, we are launching a branding campaign that helps to define our brand persona, identify clear and concise communication goals for our very own brand – “Protasco”. The exercise will also help employees to make a powerful emotional connection to the products and services we believe and sell, guided by ROCK IT values.

Given that the modern business environment is highly robust and dynamic; building a culture of leadership in Protasco is an important ingredient of IAP. I urge all my leading Champions in Protasco, to nurture more leaders in time to come and steer the whole body of the employees towards the right directions for change, and ultimately, it falls on you and your subordinates whether the IAP journey will be a success or not.

With the goal of making a positive impact in the lives of the communities in which we operate in, our people at Protasco are actively engaged in a myriad of activities to address appropriately the needs of our local communities. In 2015, Protasco has successfully delivered 6 homes to flood victims in various villages in Gua Musang, Kelantan.

At Protasco, we know that our success as a company is directly linked to our biggest and most important asset i.e. our employees and we would like to thank you sincerely for your support. I am excited about the prospects for 2016 and am looking forward to the challenges ahead with renewed energy and enthusiasm.

I wish you a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year!Let’s ROCK IT!

This issue of the Protasco Berhad’s Newsletter documents the wrapping up of the IAP programs that took place in the second half of the year. The closing of Phase 1 took place on August 2015 also launched the next phase which is the new PMS.

Come the end of 2015, we will see Protasco Berhad staff addressing more of the company’s Core Values into their daily activities. Better known as ROCK IT, the 6 values has been included in the latest edition of the Performance Management System. After trying it out for myself, I do find that the new features in the Performance Management System are easy to grasp. What all staff should do now is to understand how we can apply the values in our daily task and feed it into the system.

The corporate office of Protasco Berhad at Unipark Suria is also looking brand new after the total renovation on the 2nd floor is completed early October 2015. It is most appropriate too with the completion of the signature building of the De Centrum city besides the Corporate Block. The whole Protasco Berhad office has a very corporate feel now, and we can look forward to an even more conducive working environment.

De Centrum has an extension to its sales gallery and currently displays a model of its whole development plan at Unipark i.e the De Centrum City. Do invite your family and friends to come view the development model at the sales gallery, as it is indeed very eye catching.

Highlighted also in this issue is our CSR program that sees us completing 6 houses for families who have been affected by the 2014 flood in Kelantan. After almost 4 months of planning and construction, 3 houses were delivered to 3 Orang Asli families at Kampung Teranek in Gua Musang and another 3 houses are being built at Kg Kolam Mas. This effort is made possible by Protasco /Roadcare’s collaboration with an NGO that build the houses at Sg Teranik and a private builder that built the next 3 house in Kg Kolam Mas. Protasco hopes to be able to do even bigger CSR activities in the near future.

And the organisation wishes Dato’ Sri Ir Chong Ket Pen for having been nominated as a top nominee for Malaysia EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2015. The nomination in itself is already a huge achievement for the organisation and a massive recognition for Dato’ Sri.

It has been a good 2015 with meaningful events and activities. Let’s look forward to an even more eventful 2016.

cold In-Place Recycling (CIPR) is a pavement rehabilitation technique that reduces the life cycle cost of the pavement maintenance by complete re-use of the existing asphaltpavement. This process generally uses 100% Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP) mixed with a new binder which may be either cement, emulsion, lime or foamed bitumen. The reuse of the existing pavement will reduce the impact on the environment’s eco-system by minimising the usage of new quarry materials.

CIPR is often used when cracks, permanent deformation and/or loss of integrity occurred in the existing bituminous pavement. Structurally sound and well-drained pavements are the most suitable condition for the CIPR to be performed.

CIPR is a practical alternative technique that can provide high quality construction, time saving and cost effective for road maintenance and rehabilitation; it has been proven efficient and successful in many parts of the world as well as in Malaysia.

CIPR transforms a degraded and heterogeneous pavement into a consistent and homogenous structure by increasing bearing capacity, durability and strength that is equal if not more than conventional method.

HCM Engineering Sdn Bhd (HCM), is the pioneer in bringing and implementing the CIPRtechnology to Malaysia. The company has also implemented CIPR in their overseas projects. To date, HCME has completed over RM500 million worth of CIPR works overall.

bANDA HILIR, MELAKA, 9 OCTOBER 2015: Chang Jee Kee gets little rest or peace of mind. At 62, he must care for a mentally-ill wife and a blind teenage son with Down Syndrome.

A former ground instructor at the Malaysian FlyingAcademy, he has no income and has spent what savings he had on his family. Chang’s neighbours say that at night they hear him tapping away on his old typewriter, drafting appeals to numerous charities and other bodies for help.

One of Chang’s letters has now been answered when he received RM10,000 in financial assistance from Roadcare (M) Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of infrastructure and property group Protasco Berhad.

“I’m thankful that Roadcare heard my call for help,” said Chang in the Banda Hilir flat which is home to him, his wife Serena and son Raphael.

Chang was employed by the Malaysian Flying Academy in Malacca for ten years until December 1999, when he decided to leave the job to look after his family.

His second son, Raphael Chang Lin Hoe was born with Down Syndrome. As a tiny infant, he underwent

abdominal and eye operations. He has also undergone a major surgery at IJN to repair a congenital heart defect.

Raphael is now 22. “Raphael is intellectually-challenged and totally disabled and totally blind,” Chang had written in his appeal letter to Roadcare.

Chang’s wife Serena Tan Gek Choo is unable to help with his care, as she suffers from ill health. She is a regularpatient with Hospital Melaka since 1988 and needs daily doses of medication to remain stable. Chang must take her to Hospital Melaka for check-ups every three to four months. Tan also suffers from high blood pressure and diabetes.

As the country’s leading expert in road construction and maintenance, Protasco Group supports the communities they operate in. Responding to Malaysians in need is part of Protasco’s continuous CSR efforts in building sustainable communities.

“Protasco and its group of companies is committed to the communities where it operates,” said Dato’ Ir Jamal Dato’ Nasir, Chief Operating Officer, Roadcare (M) Sdn Bhd. “We are proud to help families rebuild their lives,” added Dato’ Ir Jamal.
