MEETING CHANGE: Our March council meeting,Wednesday March 18,

will be held at Trimbur Hall at St. Francis Church. Our monthly

meetings will be held there until the time change in the fall. Please note

that the time schedule has changed. We will begin at 6:15pm with our time

for refreshments BEFORE our meeting. Rosary will be said at7:15 followed

by our monthly council meeting at approximately 7:30.

Thanks to all of our council members who helped in various ways

around the church and school after the snow storm.

TOOTSIE ROLL DRIVE: Being that we didn’t have

our annual Tootsie Roll Drive in the fall, we have

rescheduled that event for April 10 – 11 at

Georgetown Walmart. We are in need of a chair-

man to co-ordinate this event. It will be held only on Friday and Saturday

this year. Proceeds from this event are our support of Quest Farm. Our

biggest contribution is TIME. Wives and children are encouraged to

participate as well.

Greetings,

What a winter! I must admit, being from Minnesota,

all this snow brings back some great memories

from my childhood. However, I am now ready for

some warm, dry weather. I would like to give

a special thank you to our school and church

community for all their help in keeping the snow cleared, pipes

unfrozen, and buildings heated during this stretch of weather.

If you have a chance, come to the Stations of the Cross on

Fridays, at 8:00 am. The fourth graders do a great job leading

the Stations.

God bless and take care,

Mr. Mardell

THANK YOU FROM THE OPPORTUNITIES FOR LIFE MINISTRY:

A MESSAGE FROM FATHER L INH

Dear Friends in Christ, Happy Fourth Sunday of Lent—Laetare: “Rejoice, O Jerusalem - and come together all you that love her; rejoice with joy, you that have been in sorrow; that you may exult, and be filled from the breasts of your consolation. Psalm: “I rejoiced when they said to me: ‘we shall go into God’s House!’”

This Sunday is currently also known as Mothering Sunday, Refreshment Sunday, Mid-Lent Sunday, and Rose Sunday (either because the golden rose sent by the popes to Catholic sovereigns used to be blessed at this time or because the use of rose-colored vestments instead of violent ones was permitted). Historically it was also once known as “the Sunday of the Five Loaves,” from the traditional Gospel reading for the day, the story of the miracle of the loaves and fishes, which was, before the adoption of the modern “common” lectionaries, the Gospel reading for this Sunday in the Lutheran, Anglican, Roman Catholic, Western-rite Orthodox, and Old Catholic churches. (Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) As we come to the mid-point of our Lent Season, I am sure there are many frustrations due to the weather and sickness. I am sure there is much distraction to deter us from our Lent’s commitment of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. I wish to encourage our parish family community to commit to our Lenten’s Mission to focus on the poor through “Gather the Fragments” program. Together with our Knights, our parish is chartering to raise $7,000 for three important organizations to help the poor. We can support this effort by tightening our daily consumptions for remembering the poor. Thus far, our collection over the past three weeks is little more than $2,000. Please be generous and conscious on this wonderful mission for the less fortunate. I would like to also remind and invite you to our annual Lent Mission which will be from Sunday, March 22 to Tuesday, March 24 with opportunity for Communal Reconciliation on Wednesday, March 25th. This year’s Lent Mission is focusing on Pope Francis’ Apostolic Exhortation: EVANGELII GAUDIUM, The Joy of the Gospel. Please consider reading this beautiful short document prior to our Lent Mission. You may download or purchase this inexpensive document. Use this next week to spend time with the Lord in Adoration and read this beautiful document with Christ. How often we Christians live as though we have no hope? How often are we so far from Christ’s joyous peace? How many times do we accept the indifference of this world that confuses us about our true identity as sons and daughters of God? How many times are we so clueless regarding to our purpose and mission in life? Do you want to be challenged? Where is your heart in regarding to Christ’s message of love? Do you want to recommit to Christ’s peaceful mission? Please refer to the flyer in bulletin to know our guest facilitators and the schedule of our Lent Mission. I hope you will take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to deepen your love for Christ and excitment about God’s mission, “For the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (Mk 10:45). Godspeed, Fr. Linh

FOURTH SUNDAY OF LENT MARCH 15, 2015

Fourth Week of Lent The Man Born Blind

This week lanterns were added to the Jerusalem scene, as a representation of Jesus as “the light of the world”. In today’s Gospel reading, Jesus opened the eyes of a blind man so that he could see. He was born blind “so that the works of God might be made visible through him”. The Jews repeatedly asked the blind man how he was healed. He responded by saying “I already told you and you did not listen”. How often do you think God responds to us in this way? When things don’t go our way or our plan is not the same as God’s plan and we keep questioning things—God would probably like to say ‘I already told you and you did not listen. Keep trusting in Me’.

Let us focus on the light of Jesus and find peace in his Presence.

The Fourth Sunday of Lent - March 15 2 Chronicles 36:14-16

Eph. 2:4-10

John 3:14-21

Monday of the Fourth Week of Lent - March 16 John 4:43-54

Tuesday of the Fourth Week of Lent - March 17 John 5:1-16 If I am being completely honest, I have not had a close relationship with God lately, and I have never really understood or celebrated Lent. It’s time

for both of those things change. So, this year for Lent, I plan on fasting and working to get closer to God.

There have been times when I’ve lost my faith, and Lent is a time when I can work to find my way back to God. Through fasting and prayer I can

renew my faith in God and ask for the healing I so desperately need. I can ask for the same healing that Jesus gave in today’s Gospel reading. I

am that sick person. I am the one who needs guidance and help. I know that I can’t do it all by myself, and I know that God will help me. I believe

that during Lent I can find that the help and healing I need to get back on track with God.

But my story isn’t so different, for we all need guidance in our lives, and we have all needed help in finding our way back to God and our faith. Lent

is the perfect time when we can look to God for that help and find our way back to Him.

SS. FRANCIS & JOHN CATHOLIC PARISH MARCH 15, 2015

Thursday of the Fourth Week of Lent - March 19 Solemnity of Saint Joseph, husband of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Matthew 1:16, 18-21, 24

Tuesday of the Fourth Week of Lent - March 17 John 5:1-16 To me, Lent is sacrifice. Faith is what helps guide me through the Lenten season. Faith to me means…

F is for follow. We should follow Jesus.

A is for adore. We should adore Jesus.

I is for include. We should include Jesus in everything we do.

T is for trust. We should trust in Jesus.

H is for hope. We should have hope in Jesus. When Saint Joseph found out that he was going to be the earthly father of our Savior, he did all these things. He had faith. As we go through this Lenten season, we should strive to be more like Saint Joseph. One way to do this is by incorporating the Saint Joseph prayer into your daily prayer life in honor of Jesus' faithful earthly father.

Whatever you’re fasting for Lent, may God bless you and give you strength and courage to offer up worldly pleasures

for the rewards of Heaven in Christ Jesus.

Saturday of the Fourth Week of Lent - March 21 John 7:40-53 As I read this passage from John, the word that keeps flashing in my mind is dissension. In both instances there are people in disagreement of the

subject, which in this case is Jesus. While some of the crowd truly believed in Jesus, others would have no part of believing and tried to plant the

seed of doubt. Trying to secure their egos and power, the chief priests and Pharisees started hurling accusations at the guards, demeaned the

crowd, and patronized Nicodemus.

Assumptions are made by the dissenters of both parties that since Jesus was raised in Galilee that he must also have been born there, negating

his ability to fill the Scripture. The truth of the matter is either unknown or unsought. The similarity between the Gospel then and the reality of our

world today is frankly disheartening. It’s amazing what we as the human race have not learned in two thousand years. Dissension still exists in our

world, our churches, our families, and even within ourselves as we battle evil. We know this will remain a fact until the day we are all called home.

Fortunately, we can take heart that Jesus did fulfill Scripture and took on our sins so that we have a chance of eternal happiness if we choose to

accept it.

During this holy season of Lent, join me in doing something extra to show your appreciation of Jesus’ ultimate sacrifice. Also, let’s make a vow to

not get caught up in someone’s “hidden” agenda or to take part in demeaning or hurting someone else.
