ANOTHER COMPETITION TO WIN £25 AMAZON VOUCHERS! The BIGGER picture Here’s the deal, everyone wants value for money and in our current climate this is on everyone’s mind... Recently I had a chat with a friend of mine about a vehicle repairer who is, shall we say, careful with cash. The vehicle repairer skilfully uses the sanding pad until it’s so thin you can see through it, overlooking the fact that the sanding is taking 3 times as long meaning that the £30 of additional labour outweighs the 0.45p pad by 66:1. If he took a step back and looked at the BIGGER picture then he would see how much he is wasting. This happens subconsciously on an almost daily basis in nearly every organisation. Recently I had a chat with a friend of mineabout a vehicle repairer who is, shall wesay, careful with cash. The vehicle repairerskilfully uses the sanding pad until it’s sothin you can see through it, overlookingthe fact that the sanding is taking 3 timesas long meaning that the £30 of additionallabour outweighs the 0.45p pad by 66:1.

If he took a step back and looked at theBIGGER picture then he would see howmuch he is wasting.

This happens subconsciously on an almostdaily basis in nearly every organisation. You might not be aware of what is goingon right under your nose. My suggestion is

Top Tips - Cut out & keep guide:Understanding Monitoring

I hope this Top Tips page has been useful to you! Don’t forget to cut it out and keepit with your other Top Tips, as they will definitely come in handy if not now, at somepoint in the future.

Monitoring is a term that is not as commonly recognised as Redcare, but Redcare isin fact a brand of monitoring, not the actual product itself (It’s a bit like saying‘Hoover’ for a Vacuum Cleaner). After having read this Top Tip, you should have anunderstanding of monitoring and what relevance it has to you and your organisation.

WHAT IS MONITORING?

In short, monitoring is how yoursystem automatically calls the Policeand Fire Brigade.

WHAT CAN BE MONITORED?

Water leak detectionCCTV activationFire alarmIntruder alarmPanic alarmTemperature monitoring (fridges etc)Fault monitoringAnd many more...

DO I NEED MY FIRE & SECURITYSYSTEMS MONITORED?

Great question as it is not always anecessity to monitor your alarms. However, there are a couple of reasons/situationswhere it is a necessity.

These are:1. If your insurance provider requires it.Most insurance providers do ask foryour systems to be monitored, howeverit is worth double checking with cont...

your insurance provider to see whetheror not you definitely need monitoring. It might be required on your firesystems but not your intruder.

2. If you are conscious of your buildingwhen no one is there.

For example if you run a schoolbuilding, you will have peace of mindknowing that people who are neededi.e. Police or Fire Brigade, will be calledinstantly and automatically

WHAT DO I NEED IN PLACE TO HAVEA MONITORED SYSTEM?

System and building requirements formonitoring vary depending on whatgrade of monitoring you are after.

These could range from simply having afire or intruder alarm panel, to having anumber of phone lines, and more.
