Jeet Kune Do Fusion#6354

There are many Martial Arts out there today. Master Howard has studied many and holds Black Belts in five dif-ferent arts: Jeet Kune Do, Hapkido, Tae Kwon Do, Kempo and Cane. “What I have noticed”, said Master Howard, “is that either the art is for defense or for offense. What I have done with Jeet Kune Do Fusion is to combine (fuse) Jeet Kune Do with Hapkido for self-de-fense along with some kicks and blocks from Kempo, the fighting range from Tae Kwon Do and weapon disarming from Cane. Jeet Kune Do Fusion is not only a complete stand-alone system but it will work well with other systems. If a person has self-defense training such as Kempo, Hapkido, Aikido etc. or fight arts as in Tae Kwon Do, this will en-hance their knowledge tremendously. JKD Fusion will compliment other Martial Arts. This is not a cut down ver-sion, but rather, a more well rounded system.”What Makes JKD Fusion Different:• This system is for Self-Defense but can move to offense with ease when needed. • Only low kicks are used. • Weapon disarming techniques are up to date. • Attacks are done with punches and grabs familiar to the average person. • No forms or Katas • No Trophies. • No prior Martial Arts training need-ed. • This is NOT an MMA program. • Can be tailored to the individual for their wants and needs.

Additional Programs Offered:

Modern Hapkido: Practical Self De-fense for Adults. Perfect for men and women of all sizes. No athletic abilities required. No board breaking, high kicks or tournaments. Just realistic, versatile self-protection. Nationally recognized belts and certificates. Modern Hap-kido is an extremely realistic and ver-satile discipline of self-protection that includes an extensive variety of joint locks, pressure points, grappling and disarming techniques. The result is a comprehensive self defense system that is enjoyable to learn, practical and most of all - 100% effective! Ideal for those individuals who do not have the time, desire or ability to commit themselves to the demanding study of a traditional martial art. Athletic abilities are not es-sential to effectively learn this method of self defense.

Cane-Do: Protect yourself using an ev-eryday walking cane! This is the most practical self defense weapon anyone can learn. What other self-protection tool can you carry on a plane or take into a casino? Well suited for both women and men. Physical strength and athletic abilities not required.

Students are welcome to try one, two or all three programs. Each session con-sist of 2 classes (5 session = 10 classes).

Book Discussion Group:“The Will to Change: Men, Masculinity, and Love”

by Bell Hooks#6452A

Do you have a passion for read-ing and for justice? Join us as we seek to engage some of the biggest social justice issues of our day. Each meeting we will take time for guided discussion and reflection. Reading schedules and other materials will be distrib-uted on the first night of class. We will be reading “The Will to Change: Men, Masculinity and Love” (2004) by Bell Hooks. Price includes the cost of book. (There is also an option to purchase the books on your own and pay only the $5 Admin Fee). Class meets every other Tuesday.

“The Will to Change: Men, Masculinity and Love” Description:Everyone needs to love and be loved -- even men. But to know love, men must be able to look at the ways that patri-archal culture keeps them from knowing themselves, from being in touch with their feelings, from loving. In The Will to Change, Bell Hooks gets to the heart of the matter and shows men how to express the emotions that are a funda-mental part of who they are -- whatever their age, marital status, ethnicity, or sexual orientation.

With trademark candor and fierce intelligence, Hooks ad-dresses the most common concerns of men, such as fear of intimacy and loss of their patriarchal place in society, in new and challenging ways. She believes men can find the way to spiritual unity by getting back in touch with the emotionally open part of themselves -- and lay claim to the rich and rewarding inner lives that have historically been the exclusive province of women. A brave and astonishing work, The Will to Change is designed to help men reclaim the best part of themselves.dates Tues/Jan. 23, Feb. 6, Feb. 20, March 6, March 20time 7-8:30 PM Site FCC-Room 112 cost $5 (Admin Fee), $15 (Admint Fee + Book)

NEW-Night Out! Chanhassen Dinner Theatre Presents: Newsies#6253

Join us for a fun night out as we go to see Newsies at the Chanhassen Dinner Theatre! Chanhassen Dinner Theatres is thrilled to bring its audiences the exciting musical that took Broadway by storm, Disney’s Newsies! With astound-ing choreography, unforgettable songs and inspirational storytelling, News-ies is a not-to-be-missed, high-energy show for all ages.

Inspired by the real-life Newsboys Strike of 1899 in New York City, Jack Kelly hawks the headlines day-in and day-out with countless other news-boys trying to save enough to make his dreams a reality. New York World pub-lisher, Joseph Pulitzer, realizes he can maximize profits by raising the price of the “papes” and does so without a word to the “Newsies.” Upon seeing Pulitzer’s greed, the newsboys protest and declare a strike against all the publishing giants. Realizing it will take more than his friends to make a difference, Jack rallies all the “Newsies” in New York City. Through courage, determination, and friendship the “Newsies” are ready to seize the day and take a stand.

Coupled with dazzling choreography, the unforgettable songs are from Acad-emy Award®-winning composer Alan Menken (The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Pocahontas), and include: “Carrying the Banner,” “King of New York,” “Santa Fe” and “Seize the Day.” Don’t miss this ultimate crowd-pleaser, a Minnesota Regional Premiere, nominated for 8 Tony Awards – Including Best Musical!

Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE)ECFE stands for Early Childhood Family Education. *Parents are the first and most important influence on a child’s physical and mental health, moral values and learning. Early parental influences form the foundation for school success. Research shows that early childhood programs that include parents build protective factors through:• Child development and guidance• Social networks that provide reassurance and support• Connection to community resources that address child, parent, and family needs.ECFE offers you and your children:• Time to grow together through guided Parent-Child interaction time• An opportunity for your child to form early social interactions with peers and teachers• Time for you to learn and connect with other families through Parent Education timeECFE classes are taught by licensed early childhood teacher and Parent Educators. Fridley ECFE utilizes the Early Childhood Indicators of Progress and the Parent Education Core Curriculum Framework. Each class is enhanced by parent and child participation. Any family may attend these classes. A sliding fee scale is used to determine cost.

Come for your child…Stay for Yourself*The word “parents” includes all individuals who function in a parenting role – mothers, fathers, partners, grandparents and other relatives, foster parents, etc.
