    Dear Friends,

    Te winter season begins with a sense o change. Te cold and snow bring

    back youthul memories o snow days and creative moments. At HCA, we

    believe that lielong education in the arts is essential to the growth and vitality

    o ourselves, each other and our community at large. Te arts are truly meant

    to be celebrated and shared with one another. It is this which creates a sense o

    urgency to begin something new and create and share your passion or the arts

    with your community this autumn.

    At HCA, as we publish our Winter 2011 Catalog, we eel the same

    sense o longing to take the time to learn something new. Tis winter we are

    oering many new classes and workshops. We hope you will take time this year

    to discover your own creativity!

    Just a ew o our new classes this all include an expanded writing program

    or adults, classes are oered by Heidi Bee Roemer. We are proud to continue our

    collaboration with DuPage County Forest Preserve District, thereore expanding

    our adult programs at Mayslake Peabody Estate to include pastel, watercolor and

    drawing classes. We are also pleased to announce a new collaboration with theHinsdale Public Library, we are oering a calligraphy class or middle school and

    high school students.

    Hinsdale Center or the Arts is a wonderul place to explore creativity and

    we encourage everyone rom beginners to advanced, young, old and in between,

    to take a class or workshop, enroll in music or dance lessons and visit our art

    gallery. Please eel ree to call or e-mail me with any questions, suggestions or

    Ballet C students are required to wear Motionwear 2100

    The HCA/Salt Creek Ballet Program features a developmentally

    appropriate environment in which younger children eplore the

    essentials of movement and dance. Technique classes are offered at

    all levels from pre-ballet to advanced. The ballet-based program is

    under the direction of Salt Creek Ballet Artistic Directors, Sergey

    Kozadayev and Zhanna Dubrovskaya. Natives of St. Petersburg, Russia,

    they trained at the famous Vaganova Academy of the Kirov Ballet and

    have performed worldwide as soloists with the Maly Theater of St.

    Petersburg. For seven years, the Kozadayevs were with the Colorado

    Ballet Academy, he as a Ballet Master and she as a Principal Teacher.

    Hinsdale Center for the Arts has been providing quality musical

    education in the region for more than 30 years. HCA has been

    designated by the Illinois Arts Council as the Established Regional Arts

    Institution serving DuPage and western Cook counties. Our musicfaculty is comprised of highly trained, eperienced professional

    musicians, knowledgeable in pedagogy and performance.

    We offer exible and affordable payment plans for our music

    lessons, and our location in Katherine Legge Memorial Park provides

    Summer: Fleible Schedule

    HCAs Music Program includes individual instruction or adults and

    children, ages 4 and up. Te program includes one 30-minute private

    lesson per week. Forty-ve minute and one-hour lessons may be arranged

    at the discretion o the instructor.

    Music Lessons for AdultsHave you always wanted to take lessons, but never had the time? Or are

    you interested in rekindling a ond memory o music lessons as a child?

    Now is the perect time! At HCA we oer music lessons or all ages and

    Tis is a course is designed or intermediate level singers,who would like to explore contemporary singing styles and

    technique appropriate or pop and musical theater. Te class

    will ocus on developing young voices with healthy vocal

    technique, but providing them with the opportunity to sing

    songs that require a commercial singing technique. Students

    will learn about the techniques used by singers like aylor

    Swit, Sutton Foster and Adina Menzel. Students will

    be assigned one or more solos to work on over the course

    o the semester and one or more vocal duets. Classes will

    incorporate basic techniques and warm-ups and provide

    students with the opportunity to gain experience perormingwith a microphone. Students will learn rom each other in a

    workshop setting where each student will receive individual

    attention during the class on his or her song. Students are

    expected to bring a small recording device to every class and

    I you are serious about drawing and advancing your drawing

    skills, this class is or you! Students will work in a ast-paced

    environment by perecting their knowledge o dierent

    drawing techniques which include shading, highlighting,

    hatching and cross-hatching, blending, stippling, and

    layering. Tey will continue to apply these techniques to new

    projects using media like pastel, colored pencils, graphite

    In this nine week class, students will learn about basicpencil-and-paper, clay animation and stop-motionanimation techniques, as well as character design, storyboarding and acting or animation. Each student willcreate his or her own short animated movie, and take ha DVD copy o the nished production. Mr. Newmanhas over 35 years experience as a proessional animatorand animation director on eature lms, V shows andtelevision commercials.

    Hinsdale Center or the Arts is hosting an artprogram at the Library. A local graphic designerand calligrapher will teach the basics o calligraphy,

    with students completing several projects, includingdesigning a monogram and lettering a poem. Learnabout the history o the ancient art o calligraphy whileadapting it to contemporary projects! Students willdiscuss basic styles and terms while learning to writein the styles o chancery cursive and create beautiul

    Hinsdale Center or the Arts is pleased to

    continue its collaboration with Te Landings atPlymouth Place in LaGrange. During the springand summer, HCA will provide drawing andwatercolor painting classes and a new crat seriescalled Explorations in Paper Art. Classes includea book binding workshop, and our-week sessiono collage creation. In the next ew months,watch or extended programming such as: jewelryclasses, colored pencil painting and more. Allclasses are open to Plymouth Place residents and

    the general public.

    Modern Dance ProgramHCAs popular modern dance program encompasses classes for all abilities! Tanjas hip

    hop classes for boys and girls feature multiple dance techniques and encourage condence

    through dance. Adult Cardio Dance classes offer a great workout as well as learning new
