Darrell Read has accepted the position of Operations Manager of the Williston Vermont branch.

Henry Caldwell “Grumpy” Dow, 72, of Marblehead, died Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. He was the husband of Alice L. (Lemieux) Dow, with whom he shared 46 years of marriage, father to daughter Becky, and grandfather to two granddaughters, Aislyn and Hannah.

Born in Belmont, he was the son of the late Henry K. and Leah M. (Caldwell) Dow. He graduated from Belmont High School, Class of 1954, and attended Bowdoin College.

He was an Army veteran and served during the Vietnam War. He was a pitcher for the Headers Baseball Team during the late ‘50s and through the ‘60s.

Grumpy was an inside salesman. He first worked for the Apparatus Service Company in Boston for more than 30 years, and then for F.W. Webb Company of Woburn and Methuen, for the past eleven years.

He enjoyed genealogy, gardening, fishing, the ocean and his grandchildren.

Chris’ volunteer experience

began as a unified partner in basketball and softball.

As a partner, he was able to coach his fellow team-

mates on and off the field. After four years, Chris

decided to take a more active role and joined the

Special Olympics Games Management Team (GMT).

While the GMT is comprised of all volunteers, they

collaborate with the SOMA state office to coordinate

all sporting and opening ceremony events.

ASCO introduces the new 411 Series miniature solenoid valve that offers up to twice the life of competing products plus higher flow rate performance. The new valve is ideal for applications in pharmaceuti-cal, medical, analytical, and instrumentation products.

The 411 Series’ unique plunger design significantly re-duces wear on the poppet and is resistant to internal elastomer swelling that can disrupt performance. The new valve has been tested to exceed 500 million cycles in normal operating conditions, making it the longest-lived, most reliable product of its kind on the market.

ASCO has increased the valve’s flow rate by 12% to 15% over previous models, and the maximum operating pressure differential has been improved.

The new valve family incorporates a smaller, lighter weight plastic body that achieves a 12% to 15% overall weight reduction when compared to stainless steel and brass-bodied valves. This makes the 411 Series a good choice for miniaturized and portable medical devices and pharmaceutical products. Lower power consump-tion means the valve also is attractive for use in battery-powered applications. In addition, it is the only min-iature solenoid valve that is fully compliant with RoHS regulations.

Tony comes to us with more than 10 years of experience in the pump industry and also has extensive knowledge of systems and controls. He prides himself on his system-based sales approach by being

Tony also holds an Electrical Engineering degree from Tufts University which gives him unique insight into the controls and Variable Frequency Drives that are becoming increasingly prevalent in our industry.

Recently, Kentrol’s Pat Zrioka and Parrish Lovell presented a seminar on control valve fundamentals and the latest in digital technology at Maine Maritime Academy in Castine ME. The seminar was presented to Professor Kaveh Haghkerdar’s Senior Automation class. New England Water Environment Association, January 2010The New England Water Environment Association, regional partner of the Water Environment Federation, held its annual conference and exhibition at the Boston Marriott Copley January 24-27. The largest gathering of the industrial and municipal wastewater community in New England, this year’s event was attended by over 1700 facility operators, contractors and specifying engineers, and featured 30 technical presentations on topics ranging from energy management to pipeline maintenance. Webb Kentrol/SEVCO participated along with 181 other vendors. Among our visitors was Pete Bernard, chief operator of the Wheaton College WWTF. Pete won the NEWEA Operator of the Year Award for Massachusetts.

The TM Series water meters offer flow rate and flow total indication that help monitor water flow in waste water applications, water treatment, and sub-metering applications. Webb BioPharm announces the completion of our new Hose Fabrication shop in our Cranston RI facility!

Our newest addition is anchored by a state-of-the-art FinnPower machine that is capable of crimping up to 6” hose ends by generating 350 tons of crimping force. Along with the machine, we have installed a stainless steel hydrostatic test bath that utilizes 16megohm DI water for testing and a 50-watt Epilog Mini CO2 laser that can laser etch the hose collars with complete customer information. Sanitary hoses are heat-sealed in plastic packaging to insure that they’re clean and ready for installation when needed.

Our program is backed by a CIP9000 internally-audited Continuous Improvement Quality System and our team has been fully factory-trained to crimp hoses.
