Even more importantly, it is also often the central piece of inanimate infrastructure that supports our families and friendships. Mountain range, lies a home owner’s dream called Tutto Bene.

Select Structure used hand-crafted elements within the design,

including a natural stone wall that rises three floors from the stony

cellar foundations. The majority of the stone used throughout the

residence was sourced from the construction site. The living areas

within create a seamless space leading to a large entertaining

area.

The fireplace is suspended from the ceiling so it seems it hovers above the floor.

Select Structure used hand-crafted elements within the design, including a

natural stone wall that rises three floors from the stony cellar foundations.


This solar oriented home is self-sufficient in terms of water

supply, power and waste management. Energy efficient

fixtures include the giant fan that has been custom built

into the atrium style kitchen/family room and sensor

blinds which close when the sun sets to maintain internal

temperature. Tutto Bene also possesses some quirky

inclusions such as a pair of spectacular timber doors

salvaged from the demolition of military barracks located

in Italy, an impressive set of timber internal stairs recycled

from timber seats once used at the National Botanic

Gardens and a below ground cellar which is carved into

natural rock.

Better Building’s client was looking for a contemporary residence that also has a 1960’s retro style as they had really liked the original home on the block.

Planning complexities meant there were many obstacles to work through, including significant trees, sewer lines, power lines and a block with a four metre fall from front to back.

The result is a house that steps elegantly down the block and works with the site levels and restrictions, creating a strong relationship between the internal and external spaces.

This building is beautifully bright through the use of natural lighting using the angles of the house. All of the trades were managed well which produced an exceptional quality of work.

Brenton then committed to the MBA mentoring program in 2013, mentoring young apprentices during their apprenticeship. Brenton Wells specialises in renovations and extensions. Great care and attention to detail were taken with the upper house bathroom's design and finish. The interior becomes a warm and inviting aesthetic where the use of many different materials brings the space together. The extraordinary level of quality work was reflected and maintained throughout the duration of the project. The builder was met with the challenges of working within a live hotel environment, presenting tight tolerances due to the existing structure/building, and strict limits on work hours and timeframes for the completion of the project. The builder worked closely with the designer, client and a range of excellent subcontractors to deliver a sophisticated and successful project.

The feature T structures provide a vibrant colour experience to the exterior of the Aamira Apartments. One of the major technical details faced within the project was the capping detail of the ends panels, cut from 2400 x 1250 sheets, each one having 26 cuts so that when you look at it from the ground you only see 1 mitre express joint. This resulted in a good façade which gives colour variants to the building with a pleasing result.

If you need an example of the breathtaking leaps home interior design has taken in this country in just a few short decades, picture the interior of the home used in the 90’s TV show “that 70’s show”. Now quickly hit fast forward to what is being achieved (albeit in unreal TV time) on the hit Reno and Makeover TV shows of today. There was also popular British Reality TV show DIY Disasters a while back but let’s not go there. Today an interior designer has to be many things to many people. An ability to be flexible and an openness to new ideas can distinguish the “also-ran” from the “masters”. But overall a solid reputation for innovation and vision is vital. This necessary status can only be achieved by constantly delivering the abstract to the actual and transforming a

dream into splendid reality. That lovely old English word “bespoke” may not be fashionable or contemporary but just a short time ago people exploring “original” and “edgy” design options weren’t raving over the phrases like “industrial” to describe the latest trends in interior design either. The game has changed.Nonetheless “bespoke” has worked its way back into the lexicon. Back into a society where we once all wanted to be just like everyone else. Now we want it tailor-made to our needs or desires. Custom-made to our requirements or personalised to our taste. Or with some projects all three need to be satisfied.

chose a length of material it was said to have “been spoken for”, hence a tailor who makes your clothes individually to your specific personal requirements.

The car you choose to drive will most certainly say something about you and your personality. The fashions you choose to wear will also convey something specific about you. The music you listen to, the food you eat and the people you choose to spend time with will also go some way towards branding you, but only to a degree. All will eventually pass or change with time and eventually be completely replaced.

Another common theme of Reality TV Reno shows is the almost universal acceptance the budget will blow out.This tragedy is often portrayed as the “Elephant in the (half finished) room” with the frustrated tears of the client thrown in as a soundtrack. But that’s reality TV.

A project budget blow out does not have to be something which almost always happens on a job.

Under the direction of a team of MBA-ACT industry professionals budget blow outs are quickly identified. Members know the danger of a Budget Blow Out and the associated stress of a dream becoming a nightmare. This should not be accepted as the norm. VALUE ADDED

However, there is one critically important issue to address before any project of this nature begins.
