Windsor castle

• Windsor Castle is the most famous of all castles in England. Still a principal home of the British royal family, the sprawling structure is the largest and oldest residential castle in the world. It has been the site of a royal residence for almost 1,000 years, since the time of William the Conqueror.

• William’s fortifications consisted of a wooden structure a top an artificial hill. Throughout the history of Windsor Castle other monarchs have put their own stamp on the castle, but the round hill and outer walls are still in the same position as in William’s day. Windsor’s strategic position, 20 miles west of London near the banks of the River Thames, made it an

important Norman fortress. • To day, Windsor remains a primary residence of the Royal

Family.

A Windsori Kastély, Anglia leghíresebb kastélya.

A világ legnagyobb kiterjedésű, legrégebben lakott kastélya. Csaknem ezer éves királyi rezidencia, alapítója Hódító Vílmos nevéhez fűződik.

Vilmos erődítménye egy mesterséges dombra épült faszerkezetből állt. A kastély története folyamán, uralkodóik kéznyoma a kastélyon fennmaradt, de a kerek domb és a külső falak most is Vilmos alapítása szerinti helyen vannak.

Windsor stratégiai helyet foglal el, 20 mérföldre Londontól nyugatra, közel a Temze folyó partjaihoz. Fontos Normann erődítménynek készült.

Ma is, a legfontosabb lakóhelye a Brit Királyi Családnak.
