WIND POWER

Wind is a form of solar energy available by uneven heating of the atmosphere, irregularities on earth’s

surface, and earth’s rotation. Different wind patterns result from terrain, bodies of water, and vegetation. Whatever this flow

looks is, we can harvest it using wind turbines which generate electricity.

1.)What can this type of energy be used for?

People started using wind power centuries ago with windmills, which pumped water, ground grain, and did other work. Today's wind turbine is a highly evolved version of a windmill.Wind-powered vehicles: While it wasn’t 100% powered by the wind, it was a good example of how cars can also be powered using alternative energies.Wind-Powered Water Pumps: Using the wind to help pump water out of the ground is not something new. It is however a very helpful and sometimes much needed tool when it comes to some communities and countries.

2.How is this type of energy easily be renewed?

Wind power is renewable and there is no way we can run out of itWind energy is a renewable source of energy. Wind is naturally occurring and there is no way we can empty the energy resources. Wind energy actually originates from the nuclear fusion processes that take place on the sun.As long as the sun keeps shining (don’t worry, according to scientists it will for another 6-7 billion years)?, we will be able to harness wind energy on earth. This is not the case for fossil fuels (e.g. oil and natural gas), which our society relies heavily on today

3.What is the cost of using this type of energy?

● This chart is showing the increase and decrease in the past 34 yearsalso the big drop in wind energy. After this wind energy is becoming more and more popular for southern states. The estimate by 2050 a third of the energy will be blowing in the wind.

cont… What is the cost of using this type of energy/resource?

Today Wind Energy is one of the most affordable ways to go30 percent of the this project on wind energy would be helping save 7 billion a year and also help and prevent a lot of habitats of pollution.

● Wind energy plan today called the PPA Power Purchase Agreement is a contract for a utility lock-in plan for a 20 - 30 year electricity rate.

● Signing this PPA contract reduces your cost of wind energy ranging from $31-$84The prices now in Wind Energy for install depending on the size of the house can run 10,000-70,000 but for the average sized home it would normally be 30,000.

● 100-kW turbine are the most expensive with install 350,000 , but 100kW turbine can power 15 or more homes.

● 1-kW off grid turbine cost 4,000 to 9,000 which is very small.

4.What are the positive aspects to using this type of energy?

● Once the wind turbine is built the energy it produces does not cause greenhouse gases or other pollutants.

● The wind is free and with modern technology it can be captured efficiently.

● Wind turbines can play a role in both the developed and third world.● They can come in many different sizes for different needs.● Wind energy is renewable and will not run out● The cost is very reasonable and cheap only really input for this

project of wind energy is the installation cost.

5.What are the negative aspects to using this type of energy?

● manufacture, transportation, installation, maintenance, removal, and disposal of the wind generation equipment.

7.When is the energy expected to be easily accessible to the general public?

It is already accessible to the general public, however Wind energy will be established as an effective form of energy by 2031 and 18% of this energy will be used.
