Win8 EC Update using WinFlash (Step-by-Step Guide)

IMPORTANT! i. Only update your EC Firmware if system is unstable, or bug fixes provided correspond to your needs.

Flashing the EC Firmware incorrectly has risk to brick your system. ii. See to it that the guide will be followed step-by-step. iii. Make sure that there are no running programs that might interrupt the process. iv. If the notebook you purchased is pre-loaded with Windows 7 Operating System, then it is strongly

advisable “NOT” to update your EC to Windows 8 version since it will cause some function keys (Fn) and hotkeys to work abnormally. If in case you flash your system EC to Win8 version, then kindly revert back to Win7 EC version.

Things to prepare: i. USB Flash Drive ii. Laptop/NB system iii. NB default power supply iv. Internet connection Procedures: 1. Power up your NB by plugging in power adapter. Make sure that NB is running AC power during the

entire EC update process.

2. Download the EC firmware from MSI Global website.

3. Select “Save as”.

4. Save the downloaded file on your Desktop.

5. Extract the files to your Desktop.

6. Execute “winflash”

7. IMPORTANT:

Select “Shutdown” and then click “Start”

8. Click “OK”.

9. After the EC has been successfully updated, the machine will turn off automatically.

10. Remove the battery and the AC adapter, then wait approximately 30 seconds to plug-in AC adapter.

11. Power on the NB and press “DEL” key when MSI logo is displayed, until you are prompted to the BIOS

screen. See the figures below:

12. Press function key “F9” to load BIOS optimized defaults. Then followed by pressing function key “F10”

to save and exit.

Now, your Win8 EC has been successfully updated. Enjoy!
