The Wilton Bunch MD, PhD Lecture in Medical Ethics in Orthopaedic Surgery is funded by generous contributions from grateful alumni and faculty in orthopaedic surgery and podiatry.
Dr. Bunch served as president of the Scoliosis Research Society and the Academic Orthopaedic Society and on numerous committees and task forces for the AAOS, AOA and the ABJS. He was responsible for the pediatric section of the orals of the Board. Dr. Bunch was also the Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation at Loyola University Medical Center, 1975-1985.

Wilton Bunch MD, PhD
Gerald B. Hickson, MD is the Senior Vice President for Quality, Safety and Risk Prevention, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs, and Joseph C. Ross Chair for Medical Education and Administration at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. Dr. Hickson received a bachelor’s degree from the
University of Georgia, his medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine, and completed his pediatric residency and fellowship in General Academic Pediatrics at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital. Since 1990, Dr. Hickson’s research has focused on why families choose to file suit, why certain physicians attract a disproportionate share of claims and how to identify and intervene with high risk physicians. He is immediate past chair of the National Patient Safety Foundation Board of Directors and has received awards for Excellence in Research and Teaching from the Ambulatory Pediatric Association and the Society for Healthcare Consumer Advocacy’s Award for National Healthcare Patient Advocacy.
