2016 LADIES GOLF ASSOCIATION TOURNAMENTS
Each Tuesday during the golf season is Ladies Day at Willow Creek. We have a nine-hole
and an eighteen-hole group. Each week there is an opportunity to win credit at the Pro
Shop based on your performance in the “POD” or Play of the Day, which is that day’s
tournament. The POD may be an individual or a team event, and is organized by each of
the pre-appointed chairs for the month. You can sign up on-line by going to
willowcreekcc.com and logging in. Go to the Ladies Golf page for the sign-up link.
Tuesdays at Willow Creek are LOTS OF FUN!
In addition to the weekly POD, the Willow Creek Ladies Golf Association holds several
“Special Events.” These events may be played on Tuesday, but may also be a multiple-
day format. For those who play in the Special Event, if it is held on a Tuesday, you may
also choose to play in the POD.
TOURNAMENTS FOR 2016
Ladies Masters Tournament—This event is for women who are 50 years old and older. It
is played on two consecutive Tuesdays during regular ladies day. It is a “net” format
stroke play event, and is an eclectic score (pick the best score on each hole from the two
days). The event is flighted to give everyone a chance to participate and win.
Swingfest—This is a two-day member-guest event. Everyone who wants to enter is
welcome to sign up and bring a guest. The format varies each year depending on the
chairperson for the event. This is the time to bring your friends to Willow Creek and show
off our great club and your guest’s good play! You can expect a lot of great camaraderie
and wonderful golf.
Ladies Nine-Hole Invitational—This is a nine-hole event played one evening during the
golf season. All ladies who belong to the Tuesday nine-hole group are encouraged to
invite their favorite gentleman to come play in this fun tournament. There is a lot of
great food and fun to be had by all!
Ladies Club Championship—This event is just what it sounds like! It’s a three-day event
of eighteen holes of golf each day. The tournament is open to everyone who wants to play
and is a stroke-play format. It is flighted and there are gross and net payouts. The
Championship flight must play all three days to be eligible for the title of Club Champion.
If you want to play but aren’t interested in the title, or just don’t want to play three days
in a row, you may sign up for just the last two days and be eligible for the second flight
prizes.
Willow Cup—This is the last event of the summer, and is the Willow Creek Country Club
Ladies Golf Association’s version of the Solheim cup. There are two teams (Team USA and
Team Europe) that play various formats through one eighteen-hole round. There are six
holes played of each format. Everyone who wants to play is invited to sign up. The
number of teams is determined by the number of women who sign up. Which team you
are on is determined by random assignment. It is loads of fun, and the more who sign up,
the merrier!
Dates of each tournament and POD formats are listed on the
Ladies Golf Association directory calendar.
RULES FOR LADIES GOLF ASSOCIATION ONLY
Play begins at 9:00 am in May and September; 8:30 am in June, July, and August. Play-
of-the-day will not be cancelled unless the course is closed due to inclement weather.
Payment of prize money will be left to the discretion of the monthly chair.
1. Handicaps will be established in accordance with the rules set forth by the Utah Golf
Association (UGA) and the United States Golf Association (USGA).
2. Carts are mandatory on Tuesday.
3. A maximum handicap of forty (40) will be allowed on Tuesday for 18-hole players.
4. Each player’s full name must be written on the score card. A signed and attested
score card cannot be changed. The cards must be turned into the monthly chair after
play on each Tuesday. All other scores for completed rounds must be posted
immediately after golf, and a signed and attested scorecard must be turned in to the pro
shop.
FOR NINE-HOLE GROUP ONLY
Play begins at 9:00 am in May and September and 8:30 am in June, July, and August.
1. On holes #2 and #6: If your ball (first ball only) goes into the hazard, you have the
OPTION of dropping another ball behind the margin of the water hazard, shooting three,
OR carrying the ball over the creek, dropping in the designated area, shooting four.
2. On hole #16: If your tee shot (first ball only) goes into the hillside evergreens, you
have the OPTION of playing your next shot from the tee, shooting three, OR dropping
your ball in the designated area, shooting four.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF PLAYERS
1. All ladies may sign up online for the month’s play by going to willowcreekcc.com
and logging in. Go to the Ladies Golf page for the sign-in link. Pairings for Tuesdays are
then made by the pro shop. Any lady who wasn’t able sign up or who needs to cancel
must do so by Sunday noon by calling the pro shop at 801-942-1621.
2. Be familiar with sign-up and cancellation policies and procedures for each
tournament.
3. Be familiar with the rules of golf, local rules, and all conditions under which a
competition is being played.
4. Appear at first tee promptly, ready for play, at the scheduled time. Players who do
not tee off at the same time as their group will be ineligible for the play of the day.
5. If, during the play of a hole, a competitor is doubtful of her rights or procedure, she
may, without penalty, play a second ball as outlined in rule 3-3. If in doubt about a
rule, call the pro shop.
6. Pace of play is very important. Please keep pace with the foursome in front of you.
An 18-hole round should be completed in 4-1/2 hours or less.
7. Cancellation within 24 hours of TOURNAMENT play is required in order to receive
a refund of your money.
Please observe the rules of golf, the etiquette of golf, and the tradition of the game. A
very important point of etiquette is to play as quickly as possible and to avoid
unnecessary delays.
THE ETIQUETTE OF GOLF
1. Golf is a game of integrity and honesty.
2. No one should move, talk, or stand near or directly behind the ball or the hole when a
player is making a stroke.
3. The player who has the honor should be allowed to play before the opponent tees the
ball. The player who has won the previous hole has the honor, or the player with the
lowest handicap has the honor on the first tee.
4. Scoring should not be done on the putting green. It is just as easy to do it on the next
tee.
5. Lost ball: Players searching for a ball should allow the players behind to GO THROUGH
while you look for your ball. You should not resume play until these players have
passed and are out of range.
6. A player should see that any turf displaced is at once replaced and pressed down.
7. Players should carefully fill up all holes and footprints made by them in a bunker or
sand trap, and should also repair ball marks on greens.
8. Players should not injure the holes by standing close to them or when replacing the
flag stick.
9. A player who has incurred a penalty should indicate the fact to the opponent as soon
as possible.
10. Players should at all times play without delay. If a group should fail to keep its pace
and lose in distance one clear hole on the players' front, the group MUST signal the
following players to pass through.
11. No golf bag or handcarts should ever be left in front of, or on the green, tees, or sand
traps. Electric carts are not to be driven on tees or within 30 feet of greens.
12. A new player should have some golf instruction before starting out.
TEAM PLAY
Utah Country Club Ladies Golf Team Association (UCCLGTA) is comprised of the ten
Northern Utah Country Club Ladies Golf Associations. Team play is designed to develop a love
for the ancient game of golf, to organize competitive play, and to promote the spirit of
cooperation, fellowship, and sportsmanship. It provides the opportunity to play the other
country clubs in the area with old and new friends, and to test each player in team format
competition.
Team play is a season-long event and is played by each country club’s “A” team and “B”
team. One eighteen-hole round will be played by each team at each participating club. A cart
fee of approximately $12-$18, depending on the course, will be paid on the day of play. $25
will be billed to each player’s home club account for the breakfast and lunch that are
provided. If a club elects to do so, they may field a “C” team that competes with the other
clubs that have “C” teams. At this time, Willow Creek does not field a “C” team. All “A” and
“B” team matches are played on Thursdays during the season.
Teams are comprised of the eight lowest-handicap available ladies playing “A” team,
and the next eight lowest-handicap ladies playing “B” team. If both “A” team “B” teams are
not playing on the same day, ALL available ladies are still required to sign up so that an
appropriate team may be fielded.
All ladies who are members of the Willow Creek Ladies Golf Association, whose current
annual dues for the association have been paid, are eligible for team play. They must also have
played and posted at least two eighteen-hole rounds during the four weeks prior to any given
team match. All team players must have a current eighteen-hole handicap.
Ladies who are interested in playing team on any given Thursday must sign up no later
than the Tuesday before a team match is scheduled to be played. Sign-up will be according to
the instructions given by the team captain at the annual team meeting held immediately
following the Opening Day luncheon. The team captain will then let all players know who is on
each team and the player number for each person on the team. If a potential player is not
signed up, that player will not be selected for team.
The format for team play is a modified match-play event. Two players from each club
play two players from another club, with the lowest handicap players playing each other, and
so on. There are a possible two points per hole, with one point being awarded for each team in
the event of a tie on any given hole. The total team points for each match are accrued
through the season, with the winning team having accrued the most points.
For more information about team play and to view team scores and rankings throughout
the season, please visit the website at ucclgta.com. The website is maintained by the captain
of captains each year. Any questions or suggestions about the website may be sent directly to
her.

Willow Creek Country Club History
Norval Safford and others met in August of 1957 to discuss the purchase of 166 acres
of sagebrush-covered rocky land and the vision of turning this land into a championship
golf course. Aiming toward the ultimate goal of selling 460 memberships, the first 115
were sold for $998. This price quickly appreciated to $1,198 as more members joined.
A year later the front nine (now the back nine) were ready to be planted and the
course was opened in the spring of 1959. The clubhouse was completed in April of 1960 and
was introduced with a gala opening. The Mens Locker Room, which housed the Pro Shop,
was located where the Wasatch Room is today. The Willow Room was formerly located
where the Quail rooms are now, and the offices were near the front entry. The most recent
renovation occurred during 1991-92 and created all of today’s rooms and facilities.
It was predominantly due to the vision of a few men and women in the late 1950s,
coupled with the charter members, that the club possesses the reputation as one of Utah’s
and the Intermountain West’s premier golf country clubs. These “Plank Owners” not only
paid for a dream but also physically moved many of the landscape river rocks, thus creating
some level ground that afforded Willow Creek members and their guests the opportunity to
enjoy the superb golf course and club facilities that exist today.
