PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Welcome to Term 2. We hope you have had a wonderful Autumn break and that the children have all settled back in their classes. We would like to extend a warm welcome to the new families at our school and hope that you enjoy being part of our wonderful school community.
COMMUNITY BREAKFAST AND WORLD’S GREATEST SHAVE Thank you to all who attended our Community Breakfast and donated to the Leukaemia Foundation as part of the World’s Greatest Shave last term. We would like to thank all the brave students who shaved, cut or coloured their hair to raise funds for the cause.
Please read the great article that showcases our fantastic community spirit which was printed in the Blacktown Advocate during the school holidays. Reading the article made me very proud and honoured to be part of this wonderful school community.
ANZAC ASSEMBLY In the last week of Term 1 we commemorated ANZAC Day. Thank you to Mrs Krause, Mrs Lakeman and the students for the very moving ANZAC service held on 7 April. We would like to extend a special thank you to Mr Fish, for attending the service and for his contribution to commemorate this important day. Our thanks is also extended to all the families that donated flowers to be presented during the service. Your generosity was greatly appreciated. CROSS COUNTRY Thank you to Mr Daglis and Mrs White for organising the school cross country. I wish to commend all students for participating in this event, even though it was at times challenging. Congratulations and best wishes to all the students who qualified for the Blacktown Zone Cross Country which will be
held on Wednesday 25th May. MOTHER’S DAY Thank you to everyone who participated in our special Mother’s Day Breakfast. We hope that you enjoyed our small token of appreciation to all our mothers. Thank you to Mrs McGaughey for her wonderful organisation. We would like to extend a special thank you to the Community Club for organising the Mother’s Day Raffle and the stall. The students had a wonderful time choosing special gifts for their mums and/or grandmothers (there might be a few relieved fathers who were spared a trip to the shops). NAPLAN All students in Year 3 and 5 participated in NAPLAN this week. I would like to congratulate the students for their wonderful effort and for the maturity they displayed during each session. All we asked of the students was to try their best and they certainly approached these tasks in a responsible and mature manner. SCHOOL ATTENDANCE Once again we would like to remind all families about the importance of students arriving at school on time and on a regular basis. Students’ punctuality and attendance are monitored on a regular basis. Any concerns will be reported to the Home School Liaison Officer (HSLO). Students should be at school by 8:50am ready for a 8:55am start; this will avoid miss-ing out on valuable learning time and in-terruptions to the other students. We would like to congratulate all the students who had excellence attendance in Term 1. Please see the name of students with excellence attendance in the newsletter insert. STUDENT SAFETY For the safety of our students, it is extremely
important that the car park is only used by staff members and authorised personnel. Children are very hard to see behind cars and their actions can be unpredictable, therefore, we would like to minimise the presence of students near the car park. Please take care as you drive near the school, particularly during high traffic times (8:30-9:30 am and 2:30-3:30 pm). It would also be greatly appreciated if all parents and caregivers encourage students to use the pedestrian crossing when crossing the road. The crossing alerts drivers that pedestrians are around and they need to slow down. To ensure that we know who is in the school during school hours we ask that all parents, caregivers and visitors report to the office before going to any of the classes. Attendance at whole school events does not need to be reported to the office. STAFF UPDATE There have been a few staff changes this term. Mrs Madanat is now on maternity leave for the rest of the year. We would like to send Mrs Madanat and her husband all our best wishes as they wait for the arrival of their baby. LTM will be taught by Mrs Garland (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday) and Mrs McVicar (Thursday and Friday). Mrs McVicar returns from maternity leave. We would also like to welcome back Mrs Russell on Tuesday and Wednesday. Mrs Russell will be supporting students that require additional help with Language or Dialect (E/ALD). Mrs A Naidoo will also be support E/ALD students on Monday. Mrs R Naidoo is on extended leave for the term. LTR will be taught by Ms Norford in Mrs Naidoo’s absence.
Regards Maria Dichiera
Stage one recently competed in our Cross Country Carnival. Well done to everyone who raced. On Wednesdays Stage One
children are enjoying participating in our Athletics Program where they are learning skills which they will be able to use in our
Athletics Carnival later this term.
Once again we would like to remind all families about the importance of students arriving at school on time and on a regular basis.
Students’ punctuality and attendance are monitored on a regular basis. Any concerns will be reported to the Home School Liaison
Officer (HSLO).
It is also very important that the students arrive at school in time. Students should be at school by 8:50am ready to start at 8:55am; this will avoid missing out on valuable learning time and interruptions to the other students.
We would like to acknowledge and congratulate excellent attendance by term, semester and yearly basis. The following explains what is required by students to be recognised for their excellent attendance.

REWARDING ATTENDANCE
This term we have started a system to encourage
attendance. At the beginning of the week each
class will place all students names in a pencil case.
If a student is late or absent their name will be
removed. At the end of the week a name will be
drawn from the remaining names in the pencil case
and that student from each class will receive an
iceblock. This process is repeated each week.
Thank you to all students for participating.
