Willenhall RUFC Plate Winners 2014
Great start to the season for the first team at Old Yardleians tournament on 23rd August.
We beat several teams from a higher level including Ashby, Moseley Oak, Bridgnorth and
Tamworth, before beating Birmingham Exiles in the final.
Having only lost to Vipers, the tournament winners, we were unlucky to not progress into
the overall competition, but having progressed in the Plate we went on to win.
Well done lads!!

We have reached the end of close season. Pre-season training has gone well and the Colts who have moved up to senior rugby have equipped themselves well in the games that have been arranged. Unfortunately the game against Harlech has been cancelled due to the low numbers who could travel, however the first team will now entertain Bridgnorth who will be a good, tough test. The seconds and thirds will travel to Telford. Player sponsorship has been well received with a number of players finding their own sponsors. A number of independent sponsors have come forward and these will be allocated in due course. The Royal George at Willenhall continues to be our main sponsor this season. Please make a point of calling in if you are near. We have received this seasons shirts and one will be proudly displayed in a frame there. Sales of advertising boards are progressing, installation of the boards will commence immediately. Contact Phil Taylor – [email protected] for details. We are still going to open the clubhouse during the week which will also facilitate the provision of meals following training, however the planned advertising campaign failed to get started during August so will be put back a month. Bar staff are needed to facilitate this, anyone wishing part time work please apply to Eddie Baggott – [email protected] On August 31st members who have not paid their annual subscriptions will have their discount card cancelled until payment is received. Ian Law Vice Chairman will coordinate the sponsored games this season. Anyone wishing to sponsor a game should contact him directly – [email protected] Our Social Secretary Bonnie Dacre has organised a number of events which will be advertised in the club house and around the village. Please support these events and get involved in promoting them. We are committed to bring in extra revenue by attracting people from outside the club. Pitchero will remain as our main media tool. Marie Couchman – [email protected] Is producing a newsletter on a monthly basis, anyone who has anything of interest to contribute, please contact Marie direct. In the coming weeks look out for our digital advertising system that will be installed in the clubhouse. Finally good luck to all our teams and thank you for the help I have been given. Beer Festival 13th-14th September
Don’t forget we are holding a beer festival weekend 13th-14th September. On
the evening of the 13th we will also have entertainment from ‘The Bridge’

Congratulations to England Women on winning the
WRWC 2014!!
We were lucky enough to meet a few of the winning team and the world cup on a recent
visit to Worcester Warriors.
Amazing achievement let’s hope the men can follow next year

Summer Rugby Camp
We had a good turn out last month for the summer rugby camp around 30 children joined us
for the 3 days.
Many thanks to Eric Field and Daren Beesley for helping out the RFU coaches.

1.30-2.30pm: Adult touch (mixed ability teams from Walsall, Handsworth, Wednesbury and any
passersby
2.30-3.30pm: Handsworth Mini Juniors demo training session.
We will be holding a cake sale on the day raising funds for Macmillan as
part of their biggest coffee morning and would welcome any donations of

RWC2015 The Pack Try Outs
The try outs to join ‘The Pack’ to volunteer at the upcoming RWC2015 came to the
midlands last month. A number our members have applied to be a part of the RWC2015.
The process started with a visit to Solihull College, once there you were checked in and
had a photo taken. It then moved into the exhibition area which involved hands on
activities and plenty of information relating to not only the World Cup but also rugby in
general, after a short film about volunteering it was then time for a 20 minute interview.
The final part of the try out was the dreaded uniform sizing all I can say is thankfully the
uniform that was available to try on will not be the actual one.
Fingers crossed for everyone who has applied and remember to keep us posted on your
progress.
