The Will Rogers Strategic Plan calls out the need for teachers to engage in the development of innovative instruction. To make this possible, teachers at Will Rogers observe each other quarterly to grow and develop their professional skills as a

classroom teacher. This process affords teachers the time and resources to visit and learn from each other. It has already had a positive impact on our students and staff this year and we are only in the first year of implementing this practice.

To quote Mrs. Moore, “I have found this process to be inspirational and informative. It is wonderful to learn from my colleagues.” We are excited about our continued success at Will Rogers and it would not be possible without our amazing staff and super community!

Basketball Means Looking Sharp On Game Days and Having Good GradesCoach Hicks holds his boys to a high standard this year with regular grade checks and the boys sport ties on game days. High standards in practice are paying off on the court too. Coach Hicks’s shares his philosophy “Competition is an important element of any sport and as young athletes grow they naturally become more competitive. I don't talk to the kids about "needing to win a game" or "how important it is that we win". I feel my role and that of the parents is helping the athletes develop the ability to deal with competition in a healthy way. Effort and attitude is my focus. If we can achieve that, then chances are we'll win the number of games that we are capable of winning.”

Shout out to Tanner Lohse and his Student Government Students, Denise Seymour, our Parent Liaison Extraordinaire, and the PTC who donated money for the turkeys and potatoes. We were able to provide canned food, potatoes, and a turkey to 25 families. …And, another special SHOUT-OUT to our FANTASTIC PTC for supporting our students and staff—Pizza party rewards, College TailGate BBQ, teacher remembrances, turkeys and potatoes, and the labor of love to make all of these things happen…You ROCK!!!

Thank you for everything you do!

Nearly 200 eighth graders were asked, “Are you prepared for the storms?” 95% responded NO! The other 5% said, “I have my cell phone and charger.” The remaining 5% like Alina, reported, “My family and I are prepared for the storm. We have candles of the lights go out. We have blankets and sweaters. If we get bored, we have tons of board games.” The San Juan School District cautioned parents to drive carefully to school. Mr. Cooper said, “Over 150 students did not come to school and missed valuable instruction.” Mrs. Connie Franks’s family is prepared for power outages. “We have a camp trailer with propane, refrigerator and generator with food/camping supplies.  If advised to “shelter in place”, we would be okay. If we were separated, we would contact the same out of state relative to leave messages for each other. Our cell phones may not work, would use Internet or land line.” Don Freitas said, “We have cooked right in our fireplace.” Mrs. Harper reviewed emergency preparedness with her students and how important it is to have a plan.
