QUOTE of the WEEK

“The authority by which the Christian leader leads is not power but love, not force but example, no coercion but reasoned persuasion. Leaders have power, but power is safe only in the hands of those who humble themselves to serve.”

John Stott

Do you see Jesus when you look in the mirror? This

year’s theme at the All Church Retreat is “The Likeness

of Christ.” Along with having lots of fun, we will ex-

plore how we can live and work together and encourage

the pursuit of the likeness of Christ.

To help us consider this theme, we have asked Cliff

Barbarick, a professor in the Bible Dept. at ACU to join

us as a speaker. We have also invited Cliff’s wife, Tali,

to prepare lessons for our children on the same theme.

Tali is a 4th grade teacher in Abilene.

This retreat is for all ages and family types. Private

rooms, great food, go-karts and games, great fellow-

ship…everything you need for a terrific weekend. Cost

is $100 for two and $125 for 3 or more. Sign up online

or at the sign-up area today.

SHEPHERD’S CORNER

Your shepherds met last Thursday evening and discussed a variety of current issues involv-ing the church family. We had a prayer for those of our church family, friends and loved ones who have a special need for God's healing, comfort and peace. Some have lost loved ones, others are battling health problems, while we all have a need for the Father's love, grace, and mercy.

We have listed below a few of the issues we discussed:

We know the preacher selection process is very important to the church family and we are making progress. We know the Spirit is guiding us in this process and we are pleased with where we are, even though the process has taken longer than we would have liked.

This year's Holiday Schedule of Services is as follows:

On October 30 our evening Fall Festival activities will serve as our Sunday evening service. Communion will be provided inside the church building to those who need to partake.

An all-church devotional is planned for Wednesday evening November 23rd.

Sunday December 25th: no morning Bible classes and no evening service. A morn-ing worship devotional is planned at our normal time of 10:15 am.

Wednesday evening December 28th: an all-church devotional is planned.

Sunday January 1st: no morning Bible classes and no evening service. A morning worship devotional is planned for our normal time of 10:15 am.

We are pleased to announce that Joy Ambrose and Marie Clark will share Children's Min-istry responsibilities starting in October. Job duties have been discussed and a job de-scription has been developed that focuses on each of their abundant talents. Please wel-come them in their new role. Karen Strande will assist them in this transition period.

Due to a number of requests the elders are considering an adjustment in the Wednesday

evening time of service. We will be surveying the congregation in the near future as to whether you would like to meet earlier or remain the same as it is now. We encourage each member to participate in the survey and plan on attending Wednesday evening ser-vices which ever time is decided upon. More info later.

If you have questions regarding any of these issues or any other issue please ask one of your shepherds.
