• Rajasthan has an area of 342000 sq.km and located in north-west India

• Rajasthan is among the largest of the country‘s state and remarkable rich in wildlife

• The hot, dry climate of Rajasthan, its vast sandy areas, hilly tracts and numerous lakes, rivers and water bodies provide diverse habitat conditions suitable for a number of species of reptiles which include crocodiles, snakes, lizards and turtles

1. Rajasthan is home to several well known large mammals

2. Rajasthan has wide variety of protected wildlife

3. Its climate and geographic diversity makes it the home of over 250 mammals and 150 different species of bird, many which are unique

4. About 50 per cent of these species are local and the balance migratory, mostly from eastern Europe, northern Asia and Africa

Ranthambore Tiger Reserve• Ranthambore National Park is one of the biggest and most renowned national park in

Northern India• The park is located in the Sawai Madhopur district of southeastern Rajasthan, which is

about 130 km from Jaipur• Ranthambore National park is spread over an area of 392 sq km

• The park is majorly famous for its tigers

Wild animals in Ranthambore Ranthambore National park contains a huge variety of animals, birds and reptiles within it

• Tigers, Leopards, Striped Hyenas, Sambar deer, Chital, Nilgai, Black bucks, Rufous tailed Hare, Indian Wild Boar, Chinkara, Common Palm Civets or Toddy cat, Common Yellow Bats

• The park is most famous for it's diurnal tigers

birds• Ranthambore, due to its varied terrain and

abundance of water bodies, has an excellent population of birds, resident and migrant

• About 272 species of birds have been documented

• Some of the best locations to watch birds are Malik Talao, the Ranthambore Fort, Rajbagh Talao, Padam Talao and in the Jhalra area

• The most important birds in Ranthambore include's Graylag Goose, Woodpeckers, Indian Gray Hornbills, Common Kingfishers, Bee Eaters, Cuckoos, Parakeets, Asian Palm Swift, Owl, Nightjars, Pigeon, Dove, Crakes,Terns, Great Crested Grebe, Eagles, Flamingos

FloraThe vegetation in the park is mostly of the dry deciduous type with a large variety consisting of nearly 300 species

KEOLADEO NATIONAL PARK

•The Keoladeo Ghana National Park or Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary lies between two of India's most historic cities, Agra and Jaipur

• This north Indian sanctuary is situated in the country's northwestern state of Rajasthan, about 190 km from the national capital of Delhi.

1. Keoladeo is famous as one of Asia’s finest birding areas, with over 380 resident and migrant species, like the rare Siberian Cranes.

2. The park derives its name from the temple of Keoladeo (Shiva) and ‘ghana’ which locally means dense, implying the nature of the vegetation.

3. It is also an excellent place to watch mammals like Golden Jackal, Striped Hyaena, Fishing Cat, Jungle Cat, Nilgai, Sambar, Blackbuck and wild Boar

Flora• It is mostly in the north-east of the park, are

dominated by kalam or kadam, jamun and babul

• The open woodland is mostly babul with a small amount of kandi and ber

• Keoladeo National Park is popularly known as “bird paradise”

• Over 370 bird species have been recorded in the park

• Sajjangarh Biological Park is a zoological garden located in Udaipur, Rajasthan, India

• It is situated 5 km in the West of tourist city Udaipur, which surrounds the Sajjangarh Palace overlooking Udaipur City

• Animals like Panther, Hyena, Hare and Jackal has reappeared apart from variety of reptiles and birds

• Safari Park was created and wild animals like Chital, Sambar, Wild Boar, and Blue Bull were reintroduced

Safari Park

Herbivores like Chital, Sambar, Blue Bull, Wild Boar etc. have been reintroduced in the Safari Park to view the wild animals from dose quarters. A network of forest roads has been provided to reach different parts of the Safari Park

Darrah Sanctuary•It is a thickly forested sanctuary lying along the southeastern border of Kota

•This hilly sanctuary with thick forests is worth a visit

•The animals here include Wolf, Sloth Bear, Chinkara and Leopard. This sanctuary is stretched in the area of 250 sq Kms, almost 50 Kms from Kota. The best time to visit is between February and May

Kumbhalgarh Sanctuary• It Is located in the most rugged of the Aravali in Pali,Rajsamand and Udaipur districts of

Rajasthan

• It is 578 sq Kms in area and at an altitude of 500 to 1,300m

• It is home to a very large variety of wild life, some of which are highly endangered species

• The wild life includes wolf, leopards, sloth bear, hyena, jackal, jungle cat, smabhar, nilgai

• The bird life at Kumbhalgarh is also gratifying

• Peacocks and Doves can be sighted regularly feeding on grains scattered by the jungle guards

• Bird like the red spur owls, Parakeets, golden Oriole, grey Pigeons, Bulbul, Dove and white breasted kingfisher can also be seen near the water holes

• The Sudashri forest post is the most ideal place for observing wildlife in the Desert National Park

• Sand dunes form less than 20 percent of the Park, which consists of craggy rocks, pavements and compact salt lake bottoms, intermedia areas and fixed dunes

• Its inhabitants include the blackbuck, chinkara, wolf, Indian fox, desert fox, hare and desert cat

• The Desert National Park is an excellent example of the ecosystem of the Thar Desert and its rich fauna

Mount Abu Wildlife Sanctuary

• The sanctuary comprises the oldest mountain ranges - The Aravali • It was declared as a Wildlife Sanctuary in 1960

•Mount Abu has a very rich floral biodiversity starting with subtropical thorn forest at the foot hills to subtropical evergreen forest along water courses and valleys at higher altitudes.

• The sanctuary is rich in herbal medicinal plants also. About 81 species of tree, 89 species of shrubs, 28 species of climbers and 17 species of tuberous plants of medicinal importance have been identified

• It is known for Blackbuck and is also home to a variety of birds

• The sanctuary is 210 km from jaipur on the fringe of the Great Indian Desert and situated on road from Ratangarh to Sujangarh

• The Tal chhapar sanctuary lies in the Sujangarh Tehsil of churu district

• In the Tal Chhapar Sanctuary, a special type of grass is found. This grass is called motha locally

• Tal Chhaparis a refuge of the Blackbuck

• Tal Chhapar Sanctuary is a sanctuary located in the churu district of Northwestern Rajasthan in the Shekhawati region of India

•It is 108 km from Udaipur

•The forested Sanctuary provides rich pastures for a variety of Deer that includes the Chousingha and for Caracal wild Boar, Pangolin and Leopards

SARISKA NATIONAL PARK1. Sariska Tiger Reserve is well nestled in the Aravali Hills covering 800 sq km area divided

into the grasslands, dry deciduous forests, sheer cliffs and rocky landscape

2. Nearly 90% of the area in the sanctuary is covered with dhok trees accommodating various wildlife species

3. Sariska park is home to numerous carnivores including Leopard, Wild Dog, Jungle Cat, Hyena, Jackal, and Tiger
