WILDEY #2 SOCIAL EVENING AT

IMPORTANT!!! How important to you is the successful continuation of Odd Fellows work? Sit-ting at dinner or lounging around be-fore or after meetings there is often talk of “what Odd Fellows used to be .” Just as often the conversation continues with discussion of the future for the or-ganization. It should come as no sur-prise that this is a very common occur-rence around the country because there are many members that want to see real growth but don’t know how to bring it about. If you are interested in following through with action. Heart in Hand, an un-official Odd Fellows blog and guide was on the Internet. It has disappeared but not before the article was copied. There are some very interesting specu-lations and directions that the author brings to the reader’s attention. If you would like to read it and possibly have a discussion about further action contact Bro. Ken White. The Sovereign Grand Lodge is currently. focusing on this very subject

Wikipedia.com (it has to be true if you find it on the Internet) states Fred R. Barnard appears in an ad in the March 10, 1927issue of Printer’s Ink Trade Journal issue with the idiom "One Picture Worth Ten Thousand Words", where it is labeled a Chinese proverb. The Home Book of Proverbs, Maxims, and Familiar Phrases quotes Barnard as saying he called it "a Chinese proverb, so that people would take it seriously." How many of us grew up with this as a real proverb? It is probably true though because symbols have very powerful effects on people. Take for instance the symbol very much used by Odd Fellows— the clasped hands. The Inde-pendent Order of Odd Fellow News , the newsletter of Sovereign Grand Lodge put this symbol on the September-October 2017 issue. The explanation states that the symbol has been used less due to its appreciation by other groups. However, it is time to make it once more a pivotal em-blem and value for our brotherhood. It is meaningful for me that our members seek each other out before meetings to greet and clasp hands in solidarity. There are other powerful symbols used in Odd Fellows. How many have you practiced in your life recently?
