SANDWICH SUNDAYS—3rd SUNDAYS IN SUMMER
When school’s out, those on school meal programs must find other
ways to fill this need. To help, we’ve designated the 3rd Sunday of
each month as Sandwich Sunday. From 9:15—10:15am we’ll ALL
come together (adults and children) to make sandwiches that will be
taken to food ministries serving the homeless and hungry. Please
join us in the Parish Hall on July 17th and August 21st for this
special offering.
BOOK BAGS FOR OUR CONGREGATION Many of the children in our Hispanic Congregation could use
some help before school starts. Just sign up to help one or more
students by purchasing a book bag and supplies. We will be
giving out the names on July 3rd, 10th and 17th. Book bags and
supplies need to be delivered to the church by Wednesday, July
27th. The bags can be placed in the breezeway or left at the church office. The
student’s name, grade, and school will be given along with a list of supplies for
the grade of your student. Go to one of the large discount stores, when the
school supplies go on sale, and pick up a book bag and fill it using the list
provided. Instead of using the list provided, you can find the school list at most
stores in the Norcross area. Then attach the name to the book bag and bring it
to church. These children are members of Christ Church and they need our
help. Please join in this effort. If you will not be in church on the dates we are
giving out names and you would like to participate, please email, call or text
Nicki DeVillier at 404-626-7141 or [email protected]
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL at NORCROSS CO-OP
As part of our Outreach Ministry at Norcross Co-operative
Ministry, Christ Church will host 3 days of Vacation Bible
School for children of parents who seek NCM services. During
our 2 1/2 hour morning of VBS, we provide a morning snack
and engage the children with crafts, games, and a Bible story.
Another church provides sack lunches for the children to take home with them.
This year our Outreach VBS at NCM will be July 25, 27, and 29, from 9:30
am - Noon. To sign up to volunteer for any of the three mornings of this
rewarding ministry, please contact Mary Halliburton at 770-248-1923, or email
her at [email protected]. This is a wonderful ministry for preteen, teens
and adults who enjoy working with children.
OUTREACH—IDEATION CONVERSATION
RESCHEDULED TO JULY 24TH
Many of you were here in May when Ceci delivered an inspired
sermon about the findings from the parish-wide discernment.
We learned that, when asked what you want Christ Church to be
known for by non-parishioners in our community, the
overwhelming response was Outreach. What’s more, many of
you have added your name to the list of those interested in
talking more about what this might look like. To that end, The Rev. Jody
Greenwood and vestry member Natalie Leff invite you to be part of the Idea-
tion Conversations that will be held on July 24th at 9:15am. Come and be part
of the dialog! Our main goal is to hear from you! We will also let you know
about some outreach opportunities already at hand, and envision others for the
future. It is up to us to be the hands and feet of Christ in the world, loving like
Jesus and serving others. We hope you can join in the conversation!
SIGN UP FOR EDUCATION FOR MINISTRY CLASSES
FOR THE 2016-2017 TERM
Every baptized person is called to ministry. The
Education for Ministry (EfM) program, an extension
of the School of Theology at the University of the
South, Sewanee, TN, provides people with the
education to carry out that ministry and the opportunity to discover how to
respond to the call to Christian service. This is an exciting four-year course
which explores the scriptures as well as church history, ethics and theology.
EfM runs for 34 sessions each year, from September through May and meets
on Monday evenings at 6:30 p.m. in the Parlor. For more information, please
contact Dianne Olson 770-851-2472/[email protected] or Ellen Lewis
678-546-0844/[email protected]. The final date for registration for the
2016/2017 year is August 15. If you have questions about the EfM program
or want registration information, there will be an EfM table in the breezeway
before and after the 10:30 service from July 9th through July 30th. Come see
us and sign up!
2nd QUARTER 2016 CONTRIBUTION STATEMENTS MAILED
Contribution statements for the 2nd quarter of 2016 (April 1–June 30)
were mailed to all parishioners the week of July 4th. Please carefully
review these statements. If you see any discrepancies or have any
questions, please contact our bookkeeper, Robin Miller, at 770/447-
1166 x 223.
DISCERNMENT PROCESS
BUILDING AND GROUNDS PLANNING MEETING
One of the clearest messages coming from the parish-wide discernment
process was the need to enhance our curb appeal. We clearly need to upgrade
our church home to make it more inviting to visitors and more pleasant to
share with our church family. To get us moving on this process, Ted Farmer
and Steve Smith will be hosting a kickoff meeting on July 24th at 9:15am in
the Parish Hall. So whether you have already signed up to participate, or wish
you had, we hope to see you there. We need to capture all your great ideas
around church landscaping, improved signage, kitchen upgrades, and parish
hall enhancements, as well as get organized and start planning to see what we
can do to make Christ Church facilities reflect to the world the beauty of it's
members. We hope you can join us in getting started on this exciting and
important initiative.

ALL ARE WELCOME: EPISCOPAL INQUIRER’S CLASS
This Fall The Rev. Jody Greenwood will be offering an
Inquirer’s class which will allow you to gain a deeper
understanding, or a refresher, on the Episcopal
Tradition, grounded in Scripture, Tradition, and Reason.
This class serves as preparation for Confirmation,
Reception, and Reaffirmation of Faith celebrated at the
Cathedral in December, and all are welcome! Jody is exploring the best time
for the class – either in three 2-hour workshops on Saturday morning or
Sunday afternoon, or during Sunday School time (9:15 – 10:15) in October
and November. If you are interested, please contact Jody at jgreen-
[email protected] and include your information and your class format
preference. Thanks!
SUMMER VACATIONS & CONTINUING PLEDGES
Please remember to stay current with your pledges or “pay it
forward.” To help with this effort, remember that you have access
to PayPal through the church website. For any further questions,
please contact our bookkeeper, Robin Miller, in the church office at
770/447-1166 x 223 or e-mail to [email protected].
Thank you.
SUMMER CHURCH FOR CHILDREN
Children’s Chapel is on Summer break, so during the 10:30
worship we invite children to sit up front, on quilts near the
altar, so they can see what’s happening! Busy bags are also
available. Children up to 6 years of age may go to the nurse-
ry if they would prefer, while older kids and youth can help
in worship as readers, ushers, acolytes, or greeters. Please contact The Rev.
Jody Greenwood at [email protected] if your child is interested in
helping.

CHRIST CHURCH PLAYERS SUMMER SHOW
SEPTEMBER 9 AND 10, 2016, AT 7:00PM
On September 9 and 10 at 7:00pm, the Christ Church Players will present
Gilbert and Sullivan's uproarious comedy TRIAL BY JURY! This musical
romp chronicles a breach of promise trial in which anything can, and does,
happen. Come see the Defendant and Plaintiff (REAL-LIFE couple Nick and
Melissa Pichetto) duke it out as the Learned Judge (guest baritone James
Marshall) doles out his own peculiar version of justice in this tricky trial. The
cast is rounded out by lovelorn Jurymen, dancing bridesmaids, a bumbling
Usher, and a zealous barrister.
Leading off the evening of courtroom chicanery, MONTY PYTHON will offer
their own version of British jurisprudence. Even DOWNTON ABBEY'S
Dowager Countess and Lady Mary hop across the pond to check out Christ
Church's Brit Night!
Tickets are $10, and can be purchased in the following ways:
1. Fill out an envelope and pop it in the plate.
2. Call or email Beth in the church office.
3. Order ONLINE through the church website (starting Friday, July 22.)
