    Update March 2011

    Wilcox Road: Sketch view of New Square

    Improvement worksOver the next six months and on behalf of LambethCouncil, FM Conway will be improving the publicrealm along Wilcox Road and Wilcox Close.The scheme will see the footway renewed withimproved paving, with feature granite, thecarriageway will be resurfaced but the cobbles will beretained as a character feature, the lighting will be

    improved, new and better trees will be planted,improved benches and bins will be placed, and thecommercial bins will be placed in a store.

    Full details of the improvements are detailed on theback page of this leaflet.Work has already begun, with signs and fencingbeing erected. It is planned to replace the footwayand kerb lines in three phases, from the WandsworthRoad end of Wilcox Road eastwards, leaving oneside of the pavement open at all times.

    The carriageway will be excavated and renewedfrom mid-March until June. Wilcox Road willtherefore be closed but servicing will be availablefrom either the Wandsworth Road or HartingtonRoad end of Wilcox Road and all services such asrefuse collection will continue on the currentschedule.

    Works to be carried out

    Renewing the footway along Wilcox Road with improved concrete paving, with feature granite strips atintervals along it;

    Renewing the footway along Wilcox Close, including the new feature granite strips;

    Resurfacing the carriageway along Wilcox Road but retaining the cobbles as a character feature;

    Repairing all the drainage along Wilcox Road and Close;

    Removal of unnecessary street furniture such as redundant guard rails;

    Improving the lighting along both roads;

    Planting new and better trees and planting along both roads;

    Installing better street furniture such as improved benches and bins along both roads

    Placing the commercial bins in a new store on Wilcox Road;

    New cycle parking provision at appropriate locations;

    Parking to be made parallel to the street, giving more footway room for pedestrians along Wilcox Road;

    Creating easier crossing points across Wilcox Road for mobility impaired users of the road; and

    Replacing the near-derelict brick bin store on Wilcox Close near South Lambeth Road with soft landscap-
