Practical issues in creating new wikis
New wikis can only be created on Wiki Central, they cannot be created on the platinum server (and hence are not indexed for the Practitioner Portal search)
Upon request, a wiki can be moved to the platinum server by contacting Donald Burkhard
Determine who will be the wiki Administrator(s) and who will "own" content of pages
A wiki is not the place to store attachments.
Each wiki should contain a banner- If you need a banner for your Wiki page, contact David C. Neal. He will put you in contact with the graphics team. If David is unavailable, go directly to Michael Smith, the AG Branding/Visual Communication Manager.
Don't create too many hierarchy levels - too many hierarchy levels will introduce complexity, be hard to maintain and hard to make visible

“You’ve got a massive security hole!”
Anyone can edit most Wikis
– You can generally edit any page you like
– Wikis are built on the concept of trust
– Your edits – what you changed, and when you changed it – are always logged
– Another Wiki editor can revert (remove) your edits, or “patrol” them
Most Wikis establish “Category Editors”
– Each section editor is responsible for a certain category of the Wiki
– Sometimes, this is writing the content
– More often, it’s reviewing the content that’s been put in place by others
– Over time, a Wiki entry will become more and more factually correct
– The architecture of a Wiki makes it very identify editors

How do Wikis compare to Lotus Notes?
In some ways, Wikis are a direct competitor to Lotus Notes– Both are means of storing multiple related documents or images
– Both are easy to link to the outside world as a website
– Both allow multiple editors to work with the entries in the repository
Lotus Notes can do some things that Wikis can’t– Wikis aren’t a good repository for time-critical data (calendars, e-mail, etc)
– Wikis aren’t a good repository for forms-based data
– It’s nearly impossible to internally secure a Wiki against unauthorized readers
Wikis can do some things that Notes can’t– Wikis can tell you every person who’s ever edited a document, and when they did it
– You can revert unauthorized changes made to documents on a wiki
– Wikis can perform cross-referencing of documents across multiple databases
– You can include a separate discussion area for Wiki entries

How do Wikis compare to web sites?
Wikis, aside from being web sites themselves, are similar– Both are means of displaying large amounts of information on the Internet
– Both are generally menu- and category-driven
– Both use markup languages that rely on external software to handle the display
Web sites can do some things that Wikis can’t– Wikis aren’t a good repository for forms-based data
– Wikis aren’t a good way to handle interactive exchange of information
– It’s nearly impossible to internally secure a Wiki against unauthorized readers
Wikis can do some things that web sites can’t– Wikis can tell you every person who’s ever edited a document, and when they did it
– You can revert unauthorized changes made to documents on a wiki
– Wikis can be edited remotely, from just about anywhere with Internet access
– Wikis are easily editable and maintainable by hundreds of people

How to use a Tiny Link
8
What's a Tiny Link?
A tiny link is permanent. The same tiny link still works after changing the name of a page or moving the page. So when you distribute page links to others, send the Tiny Link. You can find 'Tiny link' by going to 'Info' link at the bottom of the page in view mode
How to Use Tiny Link
Use for creating links between pages in a wiki and when including links to a wiki space or wiki page in a mail.

Templates
Page templates are quick ways to format a page using a pre-determined template.
You must use wiki markup, create a new page using rich text then copy the wiki markup formula into the template form.

Wiki Statistics
17
See the Wiki Statistics section of the Practitioner 2.0 wiki for examples and instructions for creating wiki statistics reports
Use the Wiki Statistics Generator report for wiki statistics, per space key. (Also see examples in some SSI wikis)
The WebLog captures activity for the top 10,000 pages only, in order of most hits received
Warning – the WebLog does not recognise any pages which start with a number or letter followed by a "." – the majority of GBSPAK pages cannot be reported
An additional report is generated by the L&K Tech team for GBS wiki’s on the platinum server. It provides statistics for each space key, if you have a need for the report request it from Kathryn Seale.

A Sandbox provides a trial environment so you can
experiment with the tool; a place to “play” without risking
damage.
