Dear Members, Welcome to the Idaho Falls Ski Club (IFSC) 2019-20 Preseason Brochure. This season is predicted to have more than average moisture, below normal temperatures, and an active jet stream - a recipe for fantastic skiing. Even with-out this prediction, your Executive Board has been working hard to adjust to the changing nature of the ski industry. New trips, more benefits, and better communications have been our focus, while delivering our traditional events of ski sale, kick-off party, and instructionals. Our bottom line continues to be focused on helping our members make the best of winter by creating memories with families, friends, and new friends. We continue to this with the three

activities defined in our mission: 1)promoting winter sport education,

2)promoting benefits used in winter activities, and

3)promoting social events to meet old and new

members. As a club, all of

us should be

IFSC MissionThe mission of IDAHO FALLS SKI CLUB (IFSC) is

to promote, sustain, and advance the lifelong participation in non-motorized snow sports in southeast Idaho. This is

accomplished by developing, promoting, and funding activities that increase and sustain participation in selected snow sports through

a collective program of social, education, and sponsorship events. At this time, the IFSC is specifically promoting the increased participation

and enjoyment of the following non-motorized snow sports: Alpine Skiing, Cross Country Skiing, Snowboarding, Snowshoeing, and Fat-Tire Biking.

proud that we have been instrumental in promoting skiing through our subsidized instructionals and sponsorship of local area high school ski clubs. This support totaled over $82,000 last year for members of our club. We promote socialization within the community with our ski sale, socials, and sponsored events. Lastly, we have always worked with lo-cal businesses to negotiate deals that our members would use during a winter activ-ity. As with any non-profit organization, all of this takes time, effort, and energy, and we can alway use help, so why not get involved? Our club can always use new energy, new ideas, and members that will be skiing for another 50 years, so think of joining our organization. Create memories. Create friendships. Be part of the winter lifestyle that is truly unique to South East Idaho and not many other communities in this country. Enjoy what Idaho has to offer – some of the best snow and bluest skies in the Continental US. Get off that couch and join us for the best of times. See you on the track, slope, and snow.

This year we have invited Lynne Wolfe as our guest presenter. Lynne has served as the editor of The Avalanche Review (a journal

focused on avalanche professionals) for 16 years. She is an Exum guide, and teaches avalanche safety throughout the West. Lynne most enjoys helping avalanche students translate snow theory into making better decisions in the backcountry. Doors will open at 6:30pm. We suggest that you arrive by 6:45pm since there will be several booths to visit in the lobby as well as a Banff film trailer showing in the auditorium. Raffle tickets and Kate’s Bars will only be given out until 7:00pm when the event begins. A wonderful assortment of door prizes will be given away following the presentations.

We are always looking for new ideas and volunteers to help bring these wonderful sports to the larger community. IFSC trips are coordinated by volunteer members. Any member of IFSC may coordinate a ski trip. Being a coordinator is very rewarding, but takes time to organize. A member wanting to run an alpine or cross country trip, should contact the Alpine or Cross Country Director to discuss the details, which would include transportation to and from the area and any overnight accommodations. The trip coordinator is responsible for arranging lift tickets and lodging at a discounted rate and makes arrangements for food and beverage. The coordinator is the point of contact for the group and makes sure everyone has a great time! Upon approval by the Director, IFSC reimburses any costs for the trip that

are not paid directly by members. A post trip report (including financial information) is required. If you enjoy helping to set up events, large or small, you should consider being a trip coordinator! It isn't too late to add a trip for this year, we are always looking at new opportunities, because hey, you never know where the POWDER will hit! We have so many wonderful places to ski in our backyard, but need help making the arrangements to get there. For more details, please contact: Alex Kepas (Alpine Director) orMaureen Finnerty (Cross Country Director) 8 www.ifskiclub.com
