DESCRIPTION

Why You Need Backup and Disaster Recovery It’s Not Just Natural Disasters….. While most organizations will hopefully never face a disaster on the scale of Hurricane Katrina or Superstorm Sandy, disasters requiring backup and data restore do occur…. every day….in businesses of all sizes. In this webcast, we’ll cover some of those scenarios you might not have thought of, and we’ll discuss how you can plan for the inevitable. Learn what goes into an effective BDR plan, and how you can optimize your systems for quick recovery. We’ll do a demo of Backup Manager – StorageCraft, and answer any questions you have about optimal MSP backup best practices.

We’ve All Heard the Scary Stats 90% of businesses losing data from a disaster

are forced to shut down within two years.1 The survival rate for companies without a

disaster recovery plan is less than 10%.2 Only 44% [of businesses] successfully

recovered information after a recent data recovery event.3

53% of claimants never recoup the losses incurred by a disaster.4

But Could it Really Happen to You? According to a 2011 Aberdeen study, only 5% of small & 9% of mid-sized business reported data loss from a natural disaster.5

But a disaster is any event that disrupts your ability to run your business.

Backup and disaster recovery plans cover incidents like:

Natural disasters Server failures/hardware failures Employee oversight/human error/accidental deletions Power outages Viruses Disgruntled employees

Side Benefits of BDR PlanningThorough BDR planning requires a business process audit – which often results in a streamlining of processes and procedures. You’ll answer questions like:

Where is your data? What services do you depend on? What is the restore priority? How long can you really go without critical and noncritical data and

services? How much does downtime really cost you?

IDC Recommendations Extend management technologies that automate the process of asset

management, system configuration, and software distribution to reduce hands-on intervention and IT staff time. IDC found that time associated with backup and recovery procedures could be reduced by 85% to 90% when automation and new technologies were applied.6

Constrain your environment to a finite number of standard processors, operating systems, database products—making it easier to maintain and update.

Consolidate servers over a long term road map, reducing your server “footprints” that must be maintained and updated.

Standardize IT practices, especially management of settings and configurations.

Provide protected storage space within the organization’s storage resources and establish rules for the backup of mission critical data. (This ensures adequate capacity for backup and recovery procedures and for restarting of applications.)7
